Under the general direction of the Endoscopist and Nursing staff performs all duties that support patient care in the Endoscopy and GI Motility Units. These duties include direct and indirect patient care activities which are essential to providing comprehensive care to patients.

Performs duties within an appropriate time frame, participates as a team member, contributing to a positive work environment. Demonstrates an outstanding commitment to excellent customer service, learning and skill development. Patient and family centered care (PFCC) at YNHH is demonstrated by working with patients and their families based on the 4 principles of PFCC: participation, dignity and respect, information sharing, and collaboration.

This includes providing service excellence by creating a great "First Impression" by demonstrating exemplary customer service skills for all customer groups including patients, families/friends, physicians, staff and support department personnel. Responsibilities

    1. Performs technical duties which contribute to safe, effective and efficient patient care delivery.

  • 1.1 Checks, maintains, and assures proper working condition of all equipment including suction, light source, air, scopes and cameras.

    1. Assist the Endoscopist and Clinical Nurse in providing patient care.

  • 2.1 Demonstrates ability in prepping responsibilities (applying EKG electrodes, B/P cuffs, pulse oximeter, and oxygen).

    1. Performs responsibly which contributes to the efficient operation of the department. Participates in keeping the environment clean and organized.

  • 3.1 Safely transports patients to the procedure room.

    1. Maintains competency in areas of responsibility and participates in unit activities to promote a cohesive team.

  • 4.1 Completes on line mandatory continuing education classes as required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Minimum 1 year of patient care or ambulatory clinical support as PCT, MA, GI tech or equivalent experience.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of one (1) year PCT/CNA experience and/or one year GI clinical support experience and/or Perioperative experience as a Surgical Tech or in Sterile Processing.

LICENSURE

Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); Complete certification through the Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution/GI Specialty within two years of employment. Complete a minimum of 10 CEUs related to GI yearly.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Excellent communications, interpersonal, coordinative, and organizational skills. Knowledge of Endoscopic room procedure and universal precautions.

Excellent communication skills. Individual must be able to tolerate high stress areas of work. Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.

All duties require some pushing, pulling, bending and standing. Must be able to read instructional materials and labels. Must be able to take and follow direction.

Must be able to participate as member of the patient care team. Must be able to clean instruments/endoscopes, utilizing department aseptic techniques and following the Manufacturer IFUs.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds. Ability to perform tasks of physical endurance and dexterity as required.

Consistent use of proper body mechanics. Requires mental alertness and ability to perform multiple tasks. Physically and emotionally able to work under stress, stand, walk, lift and carry.

Requires standing for periods of time. Requires stamina to work in a fast paced environment. Must be physically able to push/pull objects more than 30lbs., lift trays or equipment weighing up to 30 lbs.

Requires ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Working environment: Exposed regularly to some unpleasant working conditions. May be exposed to blood borne pathogens and other infectious material.

Additional Information

HOURS: Full time; Day/Evening

  • Eight hour shifts starting at 7a, 8a, or 9a. Occasional weekends as needed.

CNA. Attention to detail, excellent communication and teamwork, ability to process and follow direction, efficient. Certification required after one year of full time employment through the Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution

  • GI focus.
