Overview: We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Special Inspector with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in foundation work and soil analysis. This role demands exceptional technical abilities, and the candidate should be proficient in field testing, capable of conducting detailed inspections, performing various soil tests, and documenting and reporting findings accurately.

The work will be done in the Bronx, Westchester, Queens, and Brooklyn.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Preparation of Pile Logs and Reports: Document the details of pile installation, including depth, type, and any anomalies or issues encountered with comprehensive reports that track the installation sequence and progression of piles.

  • Soil Boring and Test Pit Inspections: Conduct field inspection / soil boring tests to determine soil composition and stability. Perform inspections of test pits to observe soil layers and gather data on subsurface conditions.

  • Inspection of Pile Foundations During Driving Operations: Monitor and inspect the driving of pile foundations to ensure they meet design specifications and applicable standards.

  • Inspection of Caissons: Utilizing underwater cameras or other techniques to inspect caisson installations for structural integrity and proper placement.

  • Inspection and Monitoring of Pile Load Tests: Conduct and oversee pile load tests to evaluate the load-bearing capacity of foundation piles.

  • Inspection of Soil Stabilization and Stability Methods: Inspect the techniques used to stabilize soil, such as grouting, compaction, or the use of geotextiles and ensuring that methods used to improve soil stability are correctly implemented and effective.

  • Perform on-site tests to assess the mechanical properties and quality of soils, such as density, moisture content, and strength.

  • Conduct tests to measure and assess the rate of water infiltration into the soil to evaluate drainage and soil absorption capabilities to determine soil suitability for construction projects and to design appropriate drainage systems.

  • Perform inspections to ensure that the subgrade and foundation work on construction projects meets all relevant standards, specifications, and codes.
