About the Anchorage Office
Come join our Anchorage team of over 20 geotechnical and environmental engineers, scientists, and geotechnical, environmental and administrative support staff. You'll be joining a cohesive and fun team with a diversity of experience and backgrounds, and you'll fill an important role within our office and our firm. Your geotechnical projects will take you to locations throughout Anchorage and surrounding areas, as well as travel to breathtakingly beautiful remote Alaskan locations, so bring your sense of adventure and your desire to contribute to Alaska's infrastructure and communities! Your geotechnical projects will include supporting civil engineers, structural engineers, and A/E design teams investigating geotechnical conditions to support design of new construction projects for a variety of public and private clients. Typical projects in our Anchorage office range from designing foundations for new buildings, bridges, and waterfront structures, to investigating pavements on Alaskan roads, airport runways, designing new roads in undeveloped land, working alongside our environmental staff for soil testing and remediation projects, and much more. We work in every region of the state, so you will be challenged by a wide variety of soil and bedrock, seismic environments, and permafrost conditions, working in both urban and rural settings.

Our two-story Anchorage office contains a full laboratory for geotechnical materials testing staffed by full-time lab technicians, a large conference room, and a convenient midtown location with plenty of parking. The Anchorage Office Manager/Anchorage Geotechnical Team Manager provides a supportive and fun work environment. Job Responsibilities
Perform geotechnical engineering and geological analyses and calculations.
Prepare and write engineering and other reports.
Perform field explorations, collection of samples, geologic reconnaissance, and mapping.
Perform with construction observation on job sites and prepare summary logs and other documentation.
Perform geotechnical lab testing and communicate results.
Interact and communicate with clients, vendors, and staff at all levels.
Support marketing activities, including preparation of cost proposals.
Follow Shannon & Wilsons Quality Assurance policy.
Follow and promote Shannon and Wilsons Health and Safety and Loss Prevention policies.
Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Qualifications
BS in Civil Engineering, MS in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
3 - 8 years of experience in Geotechnical Engineering.
Engineer-in-Training Certificate
On track to obtain Professional Engineering (PE) License.
Work experience (and/or coursework) in one or more of the following areas: soil mechanics; rock mechanics; rock and soil slope stability; shallow and deep foundations; tunneling; microtunneling; seismic design; earthquake engineering; and retaining structures.
Field/construction observation experience must include one or more of the following areas: logging geotechnical explorations, observation of pile driving operations, observations of earthwork activities, installation and recording of geotechnical instrumentation, field reconnaissance, and/or underground work.
Typically, depending on an applicants education, experience, other qualifications they possess, if they are a fit for the company and local office culture, and the current business needs, an Entry-Level Geotechnical Engineer typically would be placed at a Shannon & Wilson Professional I, II, III, or IV level.
