Jacobs's Gainesville, Florida office is looking for a highly motivated entry level Geotechnical Engineer to work supporting multi-discipline design projects; including site development, water/wastewater facilities, constructed wetlands, environmental remediation, conveyance projects, ports, roads and highways, etc. This position will primarily support mid- and senior-level engineers to complete planning/study documents, perform geotechnical field investigations, geotechnical analyses and design, and produce engineering reports.
As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will have the opportunity to follow projects from the conceptual phase through to the construction phase, working on water resources and distribution, transportation, resource and energy projects, through traditional design to design-build contracts. Candidate skills should include good oral and written communications, strong data analysis & technical problem solving, strong organizational skills, multitasking ability, excellent computer skills and team-oriented work practices. Candidate should demonstrate a strong technical knowledge of the principles of soil mechanics and geotechnical design, with preference given to those with experience in related project areas. Must be self-motivated, detailed oriented, quality driven, and team-focused engineers on our team. In addition to developing engineering concepts, you will also complete technical writing assignments and deliver information in presentation formats. Occasional travel may be required. Entry Level Geotechnical Engineer's Responsibilities Include:
Under the direction of Senior Geotechnical Engineers, design shallow and deepfoundations, earth retaining structures, ground improvement, embankments, cutslopes, and other geotechnical structures. Perform seismic hazard analyses,including site-response studies, liquefaction evaluations, seismic slopestability evaluations, etc.
Prepare clear andwell-organized calculation packages, as well as document the results of thecalculations in well-written, clear, and concise technical memorandums, technicalreports, data reports and baseline reports Use computer programs including:Settle3D, Slide, APile, Unipile, LPILE, Shaft, FB-MultiPier, DeepXcav, GRLWeap,FLAC, PLAXIS, gINT, SNAP2 and MathCAD to complete engineering analysis
Work in collaborativemulti-disciplinary teams across North America and the world, sharing technicalknowledge across geographical boundaries to foster innovative projectsolutions
Perform a wide varietyof routine assignments which are clearly defined and require the application ofstandard design engineering techniques, procedures and criteria
Review constructionsubmittals for conformance to contract and design documents
Coordinate with otherdisciplines such as site civil, and structural engineers
Complete tasks assignedon time, within budget, and to high level of quality
Assist in thepreparation of plans and specifications, engineering reports, engineers costestimates, and quantity take-offs

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from a four year degreed ABET accredited civil engineering program plus Master Degree specialized in Geotechnical Engineering with a minimum of 3.3 GPA0-2 years of experience in the geotechnical engineering fieldA strong technical knowledge of the principles of soil mechanics and geotechnical design
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Fundamentals of Engineering (aka EIT) exam passed
Knowledge of computer programs for geotechnical analysis
Familiarity in the use of CADD tools
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
