As an intern working with our construction materials group, you will reinforce your education through a practical, hands-on, paid work experience. You will be part of a dynamic, growing, and energized team - and your role is key to the success of ECS. While your job duties may fluctuate day to day, here are some areas we expect to see you grow in:

  • Observing and documenting field activities related to the construction process

  • Sampling, testing, and inspecting soils, aggregates, concrete, grout, masonry, asphalt, and structural steel placement

  • Performing calculations and data reduction of test results along with drafting

  • Using field screening equipment and documenting readings

  • Reading maps, following directions, and interpreting engineering and construction plans

  • Interacting and communicating daily with contractors, technicians, and project managers

  • For you seasoned interns- you will have an opportunity to do some more advanced field work but also see how we solve problems and deliver results to our clients by:

  • Testing of soils, foundations, reinforced and post-tensioned concrete, masonry, structural steel, and asphalt pavement

  • Determining and/or performing appropriate laboratory tests

  • Attending project meetings and assisting in project resolutions

  • Assisting with preparation of proposals

  • Assisting with scheduling, training, and oversight of Field Technicians

  • Assist with managing project budgets and invoicing

What We're Looking For

  • Actively pursuing a Bachelor or Master degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related degree

  • Ability to work a minumum of 20 hours per week throughout the Fall semester

  • Interest in how building materials are utilized in the construction process

  • Previous internship experience would go a long way

  • Access to an insured vehicle to use as tranportation to construction sites (mileage reimbursed)

  • Clean driving record

  • Some serious GRIT and have no problem lifting/carrying 40 100 lbs. multiple times a day

Other duties may be assigned. * Responsible for all FDOT employees. * Maintaining FDOT Project Log Books. * Ensure technicians are conducting testing and inspections per contract documents. * Ensuring LIMS C-22 cards are submitted and correctly filled out. * Ensure LIMS Data is entered timely and correctly. * Field Training to ensure quality technicians are in the field. * Project estimates and managing project profitability. * FDOT Project Management both technical and financial. * Business development. * Special Projects as assigned. * Oversee QC field personnel. * Maintain field supplies and equipment. * Order supplies when necessary. * Maintain equipment calibrations. * Review activity sheets. * Approve payroll and time off requests in payroll system (FDOT Technicians). * Schedule next day jobs and give starting times to all FDOT technicians. * Client support. * Able to confer with client in participation with proper department and resolve any question or concerns in a timely manner.
