Provides leadership in the development and use of spatial data and advanced geospatial technological applications, and serves as principal technical adviser on Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Develops and implements geospatial program goals in conjunction with resource management objectives and organizational business requirements. Advises, counsels and assists Regional staff regarding GIS project planning including timelines, data requirements, data analysis capabilities, budgeting, contracting, and other information management considerations.
Serves as technical point of contact and maintains liaison with the Regional Office and Federal, State, and local governments; learning institutions; the private sector; professional organizations; and other individuals concerned with GIS, GPS, remote sensing and mapping.
Provides expertise and makes recommendations on the development and application of geospatial analysis processes, protocols and solutions to mission critical resource management issues. Applies knowledge of geospatial technology to facilitate geospatial model design and analysis.
Manipulates and analyzes geospatial data to support resource management decisions for multiple resource, jurisdictional, and ownership units or a large geographical region. Performs multi-scale and/or multi-resource analysis in support of planning, analysis, and monitoring activities.
Provides advice on the implementation, management, analysis, and use of geospatial information. Provides guidance and recommendations on sources, standards, integrity, compatibility, and cost efficiency of natural resource and socio-economic information. Conducts formal and informal training and provides technical assistance to GIS software users in the development, storage, retrieval and analysis of data.
Occasional travel - Travel approximately one time per month to coordinate with users of GIS products.

For the GS-12 level, Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include one or more of the following:
Managed and maintained geospatial data to facilitate analysis across multiple disciplines including, but not limited to, recreation, silviculture, planning, engineering and fire & aviation. Utilized GIS technology and established procedures to produce maps and graphics for various resource programs and planning documents. Manipulated and analyzed geospatial data to support resource areas, jurisdictions, or ownership units.
Assisted in the development of web, mobile and desktop applications that incorporate modern mapping, visualization and analysis techniques. Provided geospatial technical analysis, briefings and presentations to high level executives, program managers and leadership. Served as the geospatial expert member of an interdisciplinary team.
