Maxar is looking for a Geospatial Software Development Intern who has a passion for open source GIS data and technology. The intern will be joining a team that is developing an open, collaborative mapping system focusing on geospatial application development. The team is comprised of highly-motivated engineers and analysts who are constantly developing new features and workflows in response to a dynamic/evolving set of customer requirements, while at the same time ensuring the deployment system continues to meet all of the customer's operational needs.

We are looking for team members who are passionate about their work and willing to dive in on day one.


  • Work with Application Development team to complete sprint tasks, including the creation of new features, mitigation of bugs, and writing/running test scripts.

  • Ensure sound software development process and documentation that is heavily test and user driven.

  • Solving unique issues holistically, especially where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable intangible factors.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a rising Sophomore or higher pursuing a degree in Computer Science, GIS, Engineering, or related field.
  • U.S. Citizenship required

Desired Skills/Knowledge:

  • Client-side scripting and JavaScript frameworks, including jQuery, Angular, and D3

  • Web markup, including HTML and CSS

  • Good understanding of programming languages, such as Python and Java

  • Demonstrated knowledge of code versioning tools, specifically GIt

  • Demonstrated knowledge of:

  • Unix/Linux

  • Relational Databases and extensions (PostgreSQL, PostGIS)

  • Open Source Software Development

  • Experience on teams with very tight integration between development and operations throughout entire software lifecycle (requirements, design, development, testing, and deployment phases) is preferred.

  • Experience and knowledge with GIS methodologies and applications, especially OpenStreetMap, is not required but welcomed
