The Geographic Information Network of Alaska (GINA) within the Geophysical Institute seeks a geospatial analyst to support our near real-time satellite remote sensing operations. GINA serves products via public data portals to serve the forecasting and research needs of scientific users across Alaska; we are looking for a team member to assist with robust delivery of these products, accompanied by innovative visualizations.

This position also includes the opportunity to support research projects that analyze historical remote sensing data with application to environmental change and natural resource management. The successful candidate will perform geospatial scientific data analysis using GIS tools and Python, increase the visibility and impact of our data products through GINA data portals, directly collaborate with our operations and research partners, and have the opportunity to present GINA's projects at conferences and seminars. GINA has a flexible office environment and collaborates with multiple groups at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

The Earthquake Center's mission is to advance Alaska's resilience to earthquakes through monitoring, research, and public engagement. We track upwards of 100 earthquakes each day in Alaska. In this position you will learn how to assess and measure these earthquakes. The successful candidate must demonstrate ease and comfort in using computers, a passion for detail, an ability to execute repeated computer tasks, and a talent for spatial thinking. While a basic knowledge of earth sciences or earthquake monitoring is desirable, it is not required. On occasion, the position requires being on-call for 24/7 to respond to significant earthquakes.
