Barrick is looking for a Geologist II at our Golden Sunlight Mine in Montana. The successful candidate will promote safety as a value and achieve GSM safety system and performance objectives in the underground section. Support surface and underground mine operations to achieve the targeted ore tons, and ore grade. Provide necessary technical support to achieve safe underground mining. These general objectives will be achieved by:
Extending Triple Zero Safety Performance.
Actively participate in safety systems including helping to complete risk analysis, developing Standard Operating Procedures, completing planned inspections, and safety meetings.
Provide geologic support for surface and underground mine operations.
Produce accurate ore grade mapping.
Requires weekend and holiday coverage. 8 days on 6 days off roster.
Assist with the development and implementation of innovative mining solutions to improve
production and reduce mining costs.
Chip sample and map heading rounds daily
Provide guidance in ore drifts for miners to stay in ore
Log and prepare core, and deliver to mine site lab for assay
Weekly and Monthly reporting of tons and grade delivered to mill
Stockpile management for surface haulage to mill
Data entry of underground samples using Microsoft Access, Excel and Vulcan
Definition drill hole design
Drill hole sample database maintenance and updates
Block model review and updates with guidance from chief geologist
Periodic highwall monitoring radar trouble shooting when Geotech Engineer is offsite

Complete daily Field Level Risk Assessments
Participate in Formal Risk Assessments and Team Level Risk Assessments as necessary
Complete pre-shift area, equipment, and vehicle inspections
Report unsafe or sub-standard working conditions, incidents, and near misses
Perform and participate in safety inspections and audits
Report to work Fit for Duty
Manage wastes in accordance with the GSM Waste Management Manual.
Manage spills regardless of size, and immediately have completely cleaned up.
Obtain prior approval from the Environmental Department before disturbing reclaimed or undisturbed land.
Terminate any activity if excessive airborne emission is present.
Activity should not result in degradation of storm water quality including incidental releases of pollutants during a storm event.
Hazing of wildlife is not permitted.

Have a good understanding of GSM safety systems and lead these systems by example.
Understand and consistently improve understanding of the local geology.
Understand the potential of highwall instabilities.
Be able to do ore grading and geological mapping.

Familiarization of an underground environment.
