By joining the Division of Waste Management/Underground Storage Tank Branch, Corrective Action II Section as a Geologist I in Franklin County, you will have the opportunity to conduct complex interpretations of Kentucky geology and serve as a hydrogeologic and geotechnical consultant.
Holders of the Geologist I position will complete tasks such as:
Perform beginning level geological work.
Prepare detailed geologic maps.
Compile data and maintain an extensive database.
Develops No Further Action recommendations for projects that have a suspected or confirmed release from an underground storage tank.
Serves as a consultant providing direction and oversight for priority sites through several forms of communication including organizing and conducting meetings and site visits (some travel).
Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
Organizational skills and detailed oriented.
Excellent Communication skills.
Excellent Microsoft Office experience.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in geology, earth system science, earth and environmental sciences, or related field.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Registration by the Board of Registration for Professional Geologists (KRS Chapter 322A) will substitute for the required education.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed both in an office and in a fieldwork setting.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
