1.Assesses and counsels patient and/or family members with genetic disorder(s) and/or at risk for inherited conditions.
Obtains and reviews relevant patient medical records.
Interviews patient and/or family members to obtain pedigree data and medical history.
Analyzes and interprets information to identify genetic disorder and/or calculation of risk. Recommends and facilitates further testing, as indicated.
Informs patient and/or family members of genetic diagnosis, etiology, inheritance patterns, and risk of occurrence/reoccurrence.
Counsels patient and/or family members on course of disorder, treatment options, support programs, and related resources.
2.Collaborates with healthcare providers to implement appropriate testing and treatment for various genetic disorders.
Receives and screens calls from healthcare providers and related referral sources.
Facilitates scheduling of patient consultations and/or additional testing, as indicated.
Performs follow-up activities to ensure indicated tests are performed in a timely manner and results are obtained.
Ensures results are communicated to referring physician. Prepares and distributes related documentation.
3.Performs related duties, as required.
Master'sDegree in Genetics Counseling, required.
Priorrelated experience in a healthcare setting, required.
Abilityto communicate effectively and sensitively with patients and families ofdiverse cultural backgrounds, required.
