ACL Laboratories is recruiting for a full time, fully remote laboratory genetic counselor to primarily support our Southeast region.
Job Summary
The ACL Laboratory Genetic Counselor serves as a liaison between laboratories, Clinical providers, and external performing laboratory partners. In this role, the laboratory genetic counselor will support several ACL departments, including Referral Testing, Cytogenetics, and Molecular. Essential duties include: review of ordered testing for clinical appropriateness, guiding clinicians in identifying appropriate testing strategies and assisting in interpretation of results within the laboratories. Additionally, the laboratory genetic counselor will participate in research and development by providing input into new test development and clinical testing algorithms. As appropriate, the genetic counselor will participate in the development of educational tools to disseminate information regarding testing available through ACL Laboratories.
Essential Functions
Provides communication between ACL and clinical providers, including clinical genetic counselors, physicians, and clients, and external laboratories performing referred genetic testing.
Reviews genetic testing orders for clinical appropriateness, including testing performing internally as well as assays referred to an external laboratory. This may include collecting and reviewing pertinent medical data to assist in guiding and identifying appropriate testing and contacting ordering providers to discuss appropriate testing strategies.
Collaborates with laboratory technicians and directors across multiple specialties in reviewing cases, developing genetic testing protocols, and communicating relevant information.
Assists in the interpretation of results and writing of custom lab reports, as appropriate.
Participates in research and development by providing input for new test development.
Responsible for staff, community, and referring physician education regarding genetic testing options and test referral protocols.
Implements and discusses clinical genetics protocols in response to changing clinical needs and information with laboratory directors.
Promote patient safety by reporting issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives.

Physical Requirements
Works in a biohazard environment, handling infectious biological specimens and practicing good safety habits, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) when appropriate.
Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
Frequently lifts up to 10 lbs.
Education, Experience and Certifications
Previous laboratory experience preferred, but clinical genetic counseling experience acceptable.
Requires 1 year of experience. Master's Degree. Certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling, AND Genetic Counselor Licensure by the applicable states.
