JOB DESCRIPTION: Provides genetic counseling services to individuals and families according to established practices, policies and within the context of the department's genetics clinics and programs including, but not limited to, prenatal/preconception clinics, cancer risk assessment clinics, and other specialty clinics made available with program expansion.

Of note, Grady Hospital and Grady's Genetic Risk Assessment Program is affiliated with and has historically strong connections with Emory's Department of Human Genetics. As needed, Grady genetic counselors may collaborate with Emory colleagues in other genetics specialties such as metabolic disease, neurology, cardiovascular, lysosomal storage disease, among others. Supports genetic laboratory operations through coordination of diagnostic lab testing, result reporting, and consultation with patients and clients.

Assists with training students, interns, residents, fellows, and volunteers. Participates in genetic research initiatives as required by program leaders. Supports clinical and research initiatives through local, regional, or national presentations, publications, and teaching opportunities. Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited ABGC training program.

Board certification as a Genetic Counselor by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. One year of experience as a genetic counselor or related experience.

SKILLS/LICENSES: Licensed as a Genetic Counselor in the State of Georgia or valid Temporary License as a Genetic Counselor in the State of Georgia.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Medium Max 25lbs): up to 25 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 25 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks.

Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
