The Genetic Counselor Assistant will provide non-patient care support to the licensed genetic counselors. The additional data entry and clerical support will allow for increased efficiencies and allow the genetic counselors to focus on the tasks which require licensure. The Genetic Counselor Assistant will triage incoming referrals to either in-person appointments or to the contracted telegenetics company.
Maintain the CancerGeneConnect database for upcoming appointments and work through backlog of previous patients that need entered into the system; including assisting patients with data entry
Work with 3rd party telegenetics company to facilitate genetics AV visits and assist in completing documentation
Maintain other genetics specific databases (referral tracker, positive results, family releases, IHC, ODH education events)
Keep EPIC SmartPhrases up to date with current NCCN guidelines and list of genes
Write / Send 30 day notices to patients who haven't followed-up with results
Write / Send amended genetics results letters and annual follow-up letters to patient
Complete pre-auths for appointments and testing with insurance companies for clinical specific concerns
Send requested records to labs as needed
Coordinate student and fellow clinic availability for genetics
Re-order resources, handouts and test kits
Education: High School Diploma
Skills:Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Exceptional organizational skills; expertise with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Office; clear communication; able to prioritize and multi-task. Organized, detail oriented and able to work independently.
Education: B.S. in genetics, science or other healthcare related field
Skills:Previous experience with EPIC electronic medical record.
Previous exposure to a genetic counseling clinic preferred; however, any clinic experience appreciated. Prior Medical Terminology coursework
