The primary function of an Apprentice Role is to learn and develop skills to allow for progression into Field Service Technician position. Field Service Technician Apprentice will be trained in basic skills for PM1 and PM2 under the direction of Power Systems Field Service Technicians. The Field Service Technician Apprentice will be dispatched to assist as directed by Power System Service Manager. The apprentice will accompany Field Service Technicians is to learn on the job by accompanying existing Field Service Technicians. The apprentice will also be involved in Rental unit repairs in the Steiner warehouse.
Essential Position Functions:
Apprentice will progress to qualify to complete the following position functions
Troubleshoot generator power systems faults, utilizing test equipment when necessary.
Disassemble and reassemble customer owned generator sets according to the manufacturers specifications.
Connect and perform load bank testing per municipal electrical and fire codes.
Service functioning customer equipment by fulfilling the preventative maintenance schedule requirements.
Provide and utilize personally owned hand tools for repairs of generator equipment.
Drive and monitor safe operating performance of company owned vehicles.
Fill 1-gallon oil bottles from drums.
Maintain the operation and appearance of service van.
Education, Knowledge, Training, Experience, Licenses, Certification
High School Diploma or GED certification including English speaking and writing ability.
4+ years previous generator field service repair experience including Kohler Power Systems equipment knowledge.
Trade school or military generator repair classroom and practical training.
Must be able to operate power and hand tools as well as test equipment.
Valid drivers license.
Physical requirements of the Essential Functions of this Position:
Ability to lift and carry 100 pounds.
Stand and walk on concrete and asphalt surfaces for extended periods.
Able to walk up long flights of stairs and ladders.
