A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A POWER GENERATION PLANNING ENGINEER
As a Power Generation Planning Engineer, you use your analytical skills to review data and:
Are in charge of maintenance and execution of the generation portfolio model for the FTR auction and budget process,
Participate in MISO committees,
Maintain various databases critical to the position.
Maintain generator modeling data, ensure compliance with MOD standards, and analyze new generator or power purchase contracts.
Develop long-range generation resource studies and construction work plans.
Develop specialized studies and analyses to determine the most economical, efficient, and effective utilization and expansion of our generation resources.
You support our budgeting process and all other internal functions that use production costing and modeling simulations. You find your highly analytical job fascinating. Your electrical engineering career is off to a great start!
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A POWER GENERATION PLANNING ENGINEER
Entry Level Position no experience is required!
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a power emphasis from an ABET-accredited program
Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
Strong working knowledge of the detailed operations of an electric power system
Working knowledge of production cost modeling, generation resource economics, and unit commitment
Ability to interpret involved contracts such as power purchase, marketing, and interconnection agreements
Working knowledge of data management
Advanced working knowledge of engineering economics
Ability to apply advanced analysis methodologies as well as interpret and present findings in a clear and concise manner, using tables, charts, and graphics to summarize results
Ability to successfully pass a security-sensitive background screening
Other things will be taken into consideration such as do you have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal? Can you exercise good judgment? Are you detail-oriented? Can you effectively organize, prioritize, plan, and stay on schedule to meet deadlines? Do you have excellent planning and organization skills?
