Primary Purpose of this Position:

The North Carolina Aquariums at Fort Fisher is seeking a dynamic, efficient, and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a General Utility Worker. This is a manual work position consisting primarily of tasks associated with housekeeping.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing general housekeeping duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, removal of trash, cleaning windows, cleaning restrooms, cleaning and sanitizing, and general policing of the facility.

  • Performing light maintenance work such as changing light bulbs, painting, finishing drywall, cleaning roof drains, care of grounds to include mowing, raking, removing unwanted brush, assisting in cleaning entrance roadsides, and assisting with grounds keeping tasks where needed.

  • Setting up chairs and tables, attending to special lighting and decorative needs, preparing area, cleanup, resetting timers for nighttime events, etc. These events and meetings occur both during and after hours.

  • Additional tasks may include grounds maintenance, vehicle care, and some light building maintenance.

Position/Physical Requirements:

  • Must meet DNCR Fleet Safety Guidelines and have the ability to obtain and maintain a valid NC driver's license within 30 days of employment.

  • May require evenings, weekends, and holiday work as needed.

  • Ability to lift and carry 75 lbs.

  • Ability to work around strong chemicals.

Qualified candidates must have or be able to:

The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, 20 miles south of Wilmington, NC, in Kure Beach, overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and Cape Fear River. A living collection of more than 4,000 animals in 93,000 square feet of exhibit space attracts and engages more than 500,000 visitors each year.

The Aquarium is surrounded by protected woodland, marsh, and beach. Visitors often plan to stop at sites adjacent to the Aquarium - Fort Fisher State Recreation Area and historic Fort Fisher Civil War Museum. Fort Fisher Aquarium is a unique place to visit and work.
