The essential duties for this job include:

  • Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic; as required moves items related to these activities.

  • Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices.

  • Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.

  • Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yards or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper and mower.

  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various required reports including time-keeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms and PMI.

  • Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents and hazardous material spills.

  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

  • The use of personal computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems

This job requires the following:

  • None in formal education

Work Experience

This job requires the following:

  • 1 year in Engineering support, maintenance, construction, heavy equipment operation or roadway maintenance work.

  • (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)

  • No Supervisory Experience Required

  • No Substitution

Licenses and Certifications

The following Licenses and Certifications are required for this job:

  • Class C, Driver's License

  • Safety Impact Certificate

  • Commercial Driver Certificate

Other Conditions:

  • This is a Safety Impact position (either Safety Impact, Commercial Driver) and will be subject to random drug testing.

Conditions of Employment

  • Safety Impact certifications are not required at the time of application. As required, the Safety Impact, Commercial Driver and Vessel Crewmember certification(s) will be issued by TxDOT at the time of hire.

  • Must pass a drug test prior to employment for commercial driver, safety impact and vessel crewmember positions. Commercial drivers, safety impact employees and vessel crewmembers will be subject to additional drug and alcohol testing during employment.

  • In addition to obtaining a Commercial Driver License in 120 calendar days, the employee must have or obtain within 120 calendar days of employment the N endorsement on their CDL.

  • Required to work weekends and holidays.

  • Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.

  • Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.

  • Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.

  • Driver's record check will be conducted by the Department. Satisfactory driving records are required for driving state or personal vehicles and motor driven equipment to conduct agency business.

  • Must attend work regularly and observe approved work hours.

  • External final applicants for any department position who could potentially be required to drive for the department must pass a drug test prior to employment and will be subject to reasonable cause testing during employment.

  • External final male applicants who are 18-25 years of age will be required to furnish proof of registration or exemption from registration with the Selective Service System.

  • Successful completion of a post-offer/pre-employment physical exam at the employer's expense is required.

  • If hired, employee must provide document(s) within three (3) days of hire date that establish identity and employment eligibility. A complete list of acceptable documents is on file with the local Texas Workforce Commission office or http://www.twc.state.tx.us/.

  • As part of its employment process, TxDOT may procure or have prepared a criminal background check. An applicant with an unsatisfactory criminal background check report is ineligible to be hired for the position for which the report is initiated.

Responsibilities: As a Rental Technician, you will deliver and remove equipment and supplies to and from the customer worksite in a non-cdl vehicle. Additional Responsibilities Include: * Loading, unloading and securing the equipment. * Long distance hauling of equipment and supplies. * Demonstration of proper equipment usage to customer at point of delivery. * Service equipment as required to ensure proper operating condition at the job site. * Effectively communicates equipment issues with customers and Service Manager to ensure customer satisfaction. * Fuel equipment on jobsite as needed. * Perform safety inspections on equipment and maintains a clean and safe work environment. * Conduct preventive maintenance when needed. * Clean and maintain work vehicle as necessary to maintain a safe work environment. * Meets all company, governmental and equipment related safety requirements. * Perform other duties assigned as by the manager or authorized personnel. * Complete inspection reports for out-going and returned equipment; completing log book and trip sheets meeting all D.O.T. and company record keeping requirements. * To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
