The essential duties for this job include:
Assists in inspection of roadways during day and night to identify damaged and missing delineators and signs.
Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required.
Assists in sanding or cleaning bridges and roads, posting warning signs, helping the public and performing other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents and hazardous material spills.
Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.
Maintains highways and rights-of-way; troubleshoots and performs highly-skilled roadway repairs; assists in erecting and repairing guard rails, highway markers and signs.
Operates heavy equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a half cubic yards or more, tractor-trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint striper and dump truck.
Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yards or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper and mower.
Operates one or more types of complex heavy equipment such as tractor-trailer haul truck, motor grader, large gradall, heavy bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, heavy asphalt paving machine, self-propelled asphalt profiling/milling machine and dump truck.
Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment; as required uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products related to these activities to include tires and equipment attachments.
Serves as a lead worker or project leader.
Trains other employees.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
The required competencies for this job include:
Move up to 50 pounds and occasionally move up to 100 pounds (See essential duties for examples of items to be moved.)
Methods, procedures, equipment and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work.
Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines and specification codes. The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control.
Leading, assigning, reviewing and monitoring the work of others.
Coordinating labor, materials and equipment
Training in a classroom, office and field environment
The use of applicable hand and power tools, equipment and mechanical devices of the trade.
The use of light and heavy highway equipment.

Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent
No supervisory experience required.
Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on year per year basis.

This is a Safety Impact position (either Safety Impact, Commercial Driver and/or Vessel Crew Member) and will be subject to random drug testing.
Must have or obtain within up to 120 calendar days from the date of employment a Commercial Driver License Class A with N Endorsement. Applicant pays for initial cost in obtaining the required drivers license.

Safety Impact certifications are not required at the time of application. As required, the Safety Impact, Commercial Driver and/or Vessel Crewmember certification(s) will be issued by TxDOT at the time of hire.
Required to work during emergency situations.
