The essential duties for this job include:
Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required.
Assists in repairing and installing signs and delineators, mail box supports and posts, and performs some welding.
Assists in sanding or cleaning bridges and roads, posting warning signs, helping the public and performing other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents and hazardous material spills.
Drives to assist with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.
Maintains highways and rights-of-way; troubleshoots and performs highly-skilled roadway repairs; assists in erecting and repairing guard rails, highway markers and signs.
Monitors and fills out various required reports including time-keeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, PMI and records work in progress.
Operates one or more types of complex heavy equipment such as tractor-trailer haul truck, motor grader, large gradall, heavy bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, heavy asphalt paving machine, self-propelled asphalt profiling/milling machine and dump truck.
Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment; as required uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products related to these activities to include tires and equipment attachments.
Serves as a lead worker and trains other employees.
Performs other job duties as assigned.

Coordinating labor, materials and equipment
The use of applicable hand and power tools, equipment and mechanical devices of the trade
The use of heavy highway equipment
Maintaining a safe working relationship

5 years in in Maintenance, Construction and/or equipment operation & repair
(Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)
No supervisory experience required.
Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on year per year basis.

Safety Impact Certificate
Commercial Driver Certificate
Class A CDL with N endorsement
Conditions of Employment
Safety Impact certifications are not required at the time of application. As required, the Safety Impact, Commercial Driver and/or Vessel Crewmember certification(s) will be issued by TxDOT at the time of hire.
Must have a Commercial Driver License Class A with N endorsement at time of application.
Must pass a drug test prior to employment for commercial driver, safety impact and vessel crewmember positions. Commercial drivers, safety impact employees and vessel crewmembers will be subject to additional drug and alcohol testing during employment.
Required to work weekends and holidays.
Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.
Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
