SCOPE OF POSITION: # Responsible for all inspections, repairs, replacement, and maintenance for a variety of equipment, fixtures, systems and building surfaces within the facility, requiring state licensure. Assures optimal safety and compliance with organization, State, Federal and JCAHO requirements.

Assists other personnel as requested. Report to the Director of Facilities Engineering.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


Install, repair, replace, maintain, or alter items or systems covered by the State of Connecticut License type #P-1, S-1, or S-2, P-1, P-2, MG1, MG2, or F-1, F-2.# Install, repair, replace, maintain, or alter ductwork and specialized hospital equipment including sterilizers, operating room tables, laundry, and dietary equipment. Operate and maintain a variety of mechanical equipment including but not limited to boilers, blowers, chillers, absorbers, pumps, compressors, and building automation. Inspect, adjust, repair, and document readings on a variety of mechanical equipment and systems. Adjust controls necessary to maintain system and equipment output within accepted parameters. Respond to alarms, occupant, user, and other environmental customer complaints, functioning as a liaison within the department, taking necessary corrective action or coordinating work completion when required. Receives inventories, calculates quantities, requisitions, and distributes materials and supplies for special projects and routine stock, according to departmental policies. Maintains working area in a clean and orderly condition, performing all job duties in accordance with standard safety procedures and maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Promotes effective working relationships within the department, working cooperatively with other healthcare professionals and assisting staff in completing major repairs and installations, in order to

#s ability to meet its goals and objectives. Performs other related duties as required.

Perform air testing and air balancing for hospital operating rooms. Perform tests on patient rooms to assure they need the proper negative air requirements.

REQUIREMENTS:


Must possess S1 or S2 License and one or more of the following licenses: P-1, P-2, MG-1, MG-2, F-1, F-2.# Will be compensated for additional licenses other than S-1, S-2. At least 5 years# experience in Facility maintenance - preferred. Ability to utilize, following instructions and manuals, common hand tools and a variety of portable and fixed power tools. Ability to understand basic construction drawings and diagrams, schematics, and blueprints. Knowledge of operating principles of plumbing, and mechanical systems found in large, complex facilities. Knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, Federal and State laws pertaining to li9censed trade and safety. Good eye and hand coordination. The job requires physical ability through a full range of motions and positions including bending, pushing, pulling, squatting and prolonged standing and walking. Ability to lift up to#100 pounds and to work from ladders and scaffolding. Ability to function in various interior and exterior temperatures and weather extremes. Basic sensory perceptions must be within normal ranges or correctable to that range and must be able to distinguish colors accurately. Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures. Perform automated functions that fall within job responsibilities. # WORK HOURS/SHIFTS:# Rotating Shift duration is 8 hours.



WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The majority of work is performed indoors.# Outdoor work includes checking oil spills, buckets, spill kits as oil trucks come in to load oil for generators, checking oil tanks for level throughout the loading process and, at any time, are requested to check levels.# The main areas of work are the temperature-controlled boiler house and the temperature-controlled medical facility.# The workers are outside when performing some inspections/maintenance.# The flooring is hard surfacing and presents little rolling resistance during push/pull tasks.# # TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, WORK AIDS:# Employees wear a work uniform, including work boots.# Hand-trucks, drum dollies, carts, and flatbed carts are used occasionally.# Work aids such as stepladders, step stools, and extension ladders are used#in the boiler house and other areas occasionally.# Brooms, small hand tools, power tools, repair tools, scissors, shovels, rags,#extension cords are all used occasionally.#
