Job SummaryThis position exists to perform skilled work in maintenance and operations of mechanical equipment and building operations to ensure a safe and clean environment for building occupants.
Knowledge of general methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (e.g. painting, mechanics, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing and carpentry) sufficient to assist licensed trades workers and to repair machinery, tools and facilities in a timely and safe manner.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties.
Ability to safely use hand and power hand tools.
Ability to safely operate and maintain trucks, tractors, and other ground and road maintenance equipment.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to provide work instructions to unskilled helpers.
The combination of two years of work related work experience, training or equivalent in the area of painting and finishing work;
Knowledge of the safe and efficient operation of boilers and their appurtenances;
Knowledge in the area of plumbing, electrical and refrigeration equipment repair;
Knowledge of safety and accident prevention measures and practices;
Skills in the use of both power and hand tools;
Ability to prioritize situations and act accordingly to ensure the safety and comfort of building occupants;
Ability to learn and use basic computer communication/reporting programs and systems as required;
Knowledge of State, Federal, and local ordinances governing building mechanical equipment and operation.
Knowledge of department policies and procedures in the operation and maintenance of Saint Paul College.
Demonstrated inter-cultural competency
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying and bending.
Good physical health, endurance and strength requirements-ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. on a daily basis as determined by physical assessment;
In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (MnSCU) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to MnSCU's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
