Job Summary

Job SummaryThis position exists to perform skilled work in maintenance and operations of mechanical equipment and building operations to ensure a safe and clean environment for building occupants.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of general methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (e.g. painting, mechanics, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing and carpentry) sufficient to assist licensed trades workers and to repair machinery, tools and facilities in a timely and safe manner.

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties.

  • Ability to safely use hand and power hand tools.

  • Ability to safely operate and maintain trucks, tractors, and other ground and road maintenance equipment.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to provide work instructions to unskilled helpers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • The combination of two years of work related work experience, training or equivalent in the area of painting and finishing work;

  • Knowledge of the safe and efficient operation of boilers and their appurtenances;

  • Knowledge in the area of plumbing, electrical and refrigeration equipment repair;

  • Knowledge of safety and accident prevention measures and practices;

  • Skills in the use of both power and hand tools;

  • Ability to prioritize situations and act accordingly to ensure the safety and comfort of building occupants;

  • Ability to learn and use basic computer communication/reporting programs and systems as required;

  • Knowledge of State, Federal, and local ordinances governing building mechanical equipment and operation.

  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures in the operation and maintenance of Saint Paul College.

  • Demonstrated inter-cultural competency

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying and bending.

  • Good physical health, endurance and strength requirements-ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. on a daily basis as determined by physical assessment;
