General Marketing Specialist

Full-Time (12 Month Employee), Non-Exempt, Category 4

Salary Range: $25.00-$35.00 per hour

Reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications

OVERVIEW

The general marketing specialist is a member of the OCS marketing and communication team. The specialist will focus on general school marketing collateral, develop, and implement effective social media strategies, create compelling content, manage online communities, analyze performance metrics, and stay updated on social media.

The marketing specialist advances the OCS mission through print and digital platforms by assisting with internal and external marketing and communications endeavors for various campus departments such as advancement, admissions, arts, counseling, academics, spiritual life, etc. The successful candidate must be self-driven, motivated and possess the ability to work independently as well as in a larger team. The candidate must have the ability to work in a fast-paced, creative, multi-tasking and deadline driven environment. The specialist will also assist with marketing efforts for the upcoming 25th school anniversary.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Fosters strong relationships with the school wide departments (faculty, staff, students) and regularly reaches out to them to research potential story ideas

Develops ideas into general news/feature stories for digital and hard copy publications

Helps create and edit content for marketing and communications collateral such as flyers, brochures, promotional copy, etc.

Proofreads copy

Assists with writing schoolwide communications and eblasts

Serves as the editor for the schoolwide Connections weekly newsletter, the Monthly Messenger Grade 4 and Academy V newsletters and The Lions Den quarterly alumni newsletter

Edits photos (color correction, crop) for digital and hard copy publications

Collects, organizes and archives photography for marketing and promotional tools

Assists with the creation of graphics and design collateral for the monitors and marquee

Serve as additional liaison to external vendors for print projects

Attends schoolwide events as needed to perform job duties as assigned

Creates, designs and posts content for the following social media accounts: general school Instagram and Facebook, alumni Instagram and Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter

Attends after hours and weekend events as needed to capture photo or video content

Demonstrated success in following social media trends and implementing a social media campaign by working as or with content creators

Collaborates when appropriate with the arts and athletic marketing specialists

Creates and manages social media content calendar

Provides live coverage and real-time updates during important events across appropriate social media, work with event organizers and photographers/videographers to gather content

Builds and manages online communities-engaging with followers, responding to comments, and handling inquiries or concerns in a professional and timely manner

Analyzes the reach and results of posts, identify influencers, compare platform engagement levels, and improve ROI. Reports quarterly on results achieved

Other duties as assigned or modified

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

A four-year degree in marketing, communication/journalism or related field

A minimum of two years of directly applicable experience (graphic design, writing, editing}

Ability to write journalistically for stories and copy

Ability to conduct interviews with a wide range of constituents such as students, parents, volunteers, faculty, staff, coaches, board members and members of the community

Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation

Proofreading skills

Demonstrated experience in managing social media accounts

Basic knowledge of photography

Competency in Adobe Suite: Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator

Comfortable working flexible hours that will include some night and weekend events

Outgoing with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to quickly establish rapport with people

Proven experience in taking initiative, meeting deadlines

Upholds the Oaks Christian Statement of Faith through a Christian worldview
