The Purification Strategic Business Segment (SBS) GM is a global position responsible for driving the growth and profitability of the Purification Business Unit (BU). The role will be leading a team of Product Managers and Field Application Scientists to collaborate with R&D, commercial, marketing, and operations to deliver an efficient product portfolio with impactful innovations to improve customers experience and meet business growth expectations. This position reports to VPGM of Purification and Pharma Analytics BU and is a member of the BU's leadership team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Performance - meet and exceed revenue and operating profit targets for the business segment. Develop and drive strategic plan for sustainable growth across the Purification portfolio (Polish, Affinity, and OEM).

  • Business Segment Leadership

  • Develop and completes strategy for the SBS, identify products, technologies, and capabilities needed to meet customer needs and advance market position; perform make/buy/partner analyses to identify investment priorities and recommend investments as appropriate. Drive product life cycle and technology development roadmap. Ensure alignment of all functions needed to support growth - commercial, finance, R&D, marketing, operations, OEM, etc across the portfolio.
  • Product Management - lead a team to develop and implement a business segment strategy, including defining product roadmap, identifying business priorities, launching new products, leading product life cycle, exploring business development opportunities, implementing strategic marketing and go-to-market plan and tactics to drive profitable sales.

  • Harmonization - continue to build on and demonstrate a harmonized business across CaptureSelect and POROS portfolios, including innovation road map, integration of operations footprint, quality harmonization, etc.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership - strengthen and lead global cross-functional business teams to ensure alignment on programs, handle issues and gather functional input relative to achieving growth objectives. Works closely with supplement businesses and counterparts in research and diagnostics market segments at Thermo Fisher.

  • HRR

  • Drive Human Resources Review (HRR) process and supporting initiatives to hire, develop and retain a strong talent base
  • PPI - Lead organisational change initiatives and champion a practical process improvement (PPI) environment.

  • Business Segment Planning and Forecasting - takes leadership role in influencing and driving accurate forecasting using processes such as the sales, inventory and operations planning process (SIOP).


  • Bachelor's or higher degree in sciences, an MBA will be advantageous.

  • Strong product and/or technical competence, familiarity with life sciences and/or biomanufacturing.

  • 10 + year's validated experience reflective of growing scope and responsibility in related general management, marketing, product management, commercial and/or cross functional roles.

  • Experience leading global matrix and customer driven organizations preferably with significant experience leading growth in fast-growing markets.

  • Experience leading product portfolios, including driving product development with R&D and setting strategic direction for cross-functional organization.

  • Able to work closely with Operations and Customer Services to effectively anticipate and providing insights to resolving production challenges and secure product availability and delivery.

  • Experience with strategy, forecasting, budgeting and analysis of business situations, competitor profiles and pricing analysis, preparing arguments for investment.

  • Works well with uncertainty. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills working with all levels of employees and leaders.

  • Willing to travel domestic and international up to 50% of the time.

  • Strong vision and focus on where to take the business coupled with the courage, drive, and focus to implement.

  • Consistent track record to build high levels of employee engagement, hard-working teams and bench strength.

  • Outstanding performance and a record of achievement demonstrating leadership capabilities in a matrix organization.

  • Senior level member of Business Unit leadership team, driving collaboration to ensure achievement of growth.

The Director will champion and lead the consortium, working across industry and government, to realize an innovation ecosystem where barriers will be conquered, and technical breakthroughs will be born. This ecosystem will serve as the foundation for driving the infusion of innovation into commercial and government solutions to unlock the power of 5G for deeply technical vertical industries such as aviation, automotive, manufacturing, and health. This position requires an experienced leader who will coordinate the efforts of contributors across different organizations.
