Job Description

Summary

The General Manager ensures that all units within his/her area achieve success in finances, account retention, satisfaction, employee training and development. Also ensures that NMS standards, policies and procedures are upheld, while building and maintaining healthy, effective relationships with clients, customers, and employees.

Responsibilities

Operations Management :

  • Oversee all aspects of food service operations, ensuring high standards of quality and efficiency.

  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels, scheduling staff appropriately,ensuring a fully trained team to prepare and serve NSLP-approved meals daily.

  • Manage accurate inventories, procurement processes, deliveries, and budgets.

  • Ensure successful completion of state NSLP audits.

  • Utilize NMS management systems and corporate programs, including Culinary Training, Labor Optimization, Procurement Initiatives, HAACP, Affirmative Action, Total Account Management, and Division Marketing Initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with various legal requirements, such as ADA, EEOC, FMLA, OSHA, and Wage and Hour regulations. USDA NSLP guidelines and DEC compliance.

  • Weekly meeting with client to ensure expectations are met.

  • Manage all USDA required documents are completed and correct such as Production Records, CN labels and Recipes.

  • Review menus with client to make sure they are meeting their needs and following the NSLP guidelines.

  • Collaborate with the Area Manager and Director of Operations to negotiate rates, contract terms, and other business aspects with clients.

  • Ensure compliance with safety, sanitation, licenses, fees, and permits.

Leadership and Communication:

  • Champion NMS's culture, mission, values, and management philosophy.

  • Promote and secure the NMS brand and image internally and externally.

  • Engage actively in the community to establish and maintain NMS's reputation.

  • Build and nurture relationships with clients, vendors, customers, and employees.

  • Support divisional growth opportunities.

  • Demonstrate effective listening, negotiation, and presentation skills.

This role is integral to maintaining the high standards of NMS's food service operations in the K-12 sector, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, and fostering positive relationships within the community.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Must have five (5) years of institutional food service management experience.

  • Bachelor's degree in food services technology, management or related field.

  • Experience overseeing a budget or revenue of at least 10 million dollars.

  • A valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS' vehicle insurance policy.

  • ServSafe certification contingent up on 30 days of hire.

  • Excellent financial, budgetary, accounting, and computational skills.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs such as Teams, Word, Excel PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Strong communication skills, in both written and verbal forms.

  • Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read and write English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Culinary training, K-12, higher education, or related experience.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoor/Outdoor (Occasional exposure to moderate weather)

Noise level: Moderate

Description of environment:This is an industrial kitchen located in a school setting.

Physical requirements: Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 25lbs Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.

Travel: Employee may travel up to 25% to various locations within the U.S. and/or remote locations and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes and ATVs. Travel is coordinated by NMS.
