General Summary

Provides maintenance services as needed and or assigned; assisting in a wide variety of routine maintenance activities; addressing immediate operational and/or safety concerns; assisting skilled trades; and ensuring that tools, materials and vehicles are maintained in good working order.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with skilled tradesmen and/or assigned supervisor(s) for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.

  • Performs a wide variety of general and semi-skilled maintenance activities (e.g. carpentry, painting, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, etc.) for the purpose of completing projects within established time frames.

  • Prepares written materials (e.g. repair status, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.

  • Repairs furniture and building system components for the purpose of ensuring a safe working condition.

  • Responds to emergency situations during and after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.

  • Transports a variety of tools, equipment and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.

  • Maintains vehicles in good working order and ensures they are available at jobsite when needed.

  • Ability to safely operate equipment used in skilled trades (e.g. power and hand tools etc.).

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements

  • GED or High School Graduate.

  • Practical skill, experience, training, knowledge, productivity, reasoning ability, mathematical skills and ability necessary to successfully perform the maintenance services required for a General Maintenance Worker at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, as determined by J&J.

  • Excellent customer service, team work, communication and reliability as determined by J&J.

  • Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include, but are not limited to: operating equipment used in skilled trades, power and hand tools, etc.; adhering to safety practices; handling hazardous materials; and planning and managing work.

  • Ability to satisfy challenging job duties in various job conditions as determined by J&J.

  • Modular furniture assembly and repair experience preferred.

Work Environment

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop and kneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods of time, constant arm extensions.

  • Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.

SCHEDULE: Sunday - Thursday 1pm - 9:30pm ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Performs minor and major repair of all buildings and equipment. (Major repairs are performed under the supervision of licensed maintenance workers.) * Performs preventive maintenance procedures on mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis; inspects belts, checks fluid levels, replaces filters, greases bearings, seals, etc.; repairs or replaces broken parts. * Completes daily, weekly and monthly checklists on all manufacturing equipment.
