Perform rough carpentry work to include layout, wall, stair and roof framing. Select and specify materials for construction as required.
Perform finish carpentry to include preparation and hanging of doors and hardware, door casings and trims, drywall hanging and finishing, suspended ceilings, painting, carpet and floor tile. Build and repair furniture, install and relocate modular furniture and workstations, high pressure laminate work, construction and installation of office accessories, repair furniture and refinish as required.
Prepare and finish surfaces such as wooden structures, walls, labs and office furniture etc. Replace, install or repair locks in/on equipment, furnishings, and doors as necessary etc.
Obtain, deliver and move material, tools and equipment from one location to another, utilizing appropriate material handling equipment such as company vehicles, fork trucks, hand carts etc. as required.
Perform a variety of routine maintenance functions such as cleaning equipment and facilities, painting, grounds work, snow removal, lubricating, moving and relocating equipment and furnishings, changing/installing lamps and filters, receiving of and disposing of hazardous waste, receiving of and visually inspecting equipment and facilities, working with ladders/scaffolding, lifts, rigging and the like.
Interact with a variety of different people within the organization, as well as work alongside maintenance tradesman and collaborate with contractors on projects that range from adjusting door closers, preventative maintenance tasks, area renovations and new construction. Working from limited information such as oral instructions, sketches, drawings, layouts, engineering concepts and the like.
Work closely with design personnel to obtain source data to develop office and production area layouts from ideas and concepts. Determine the most appropriate materials and processes necessary to depicting unique equipment so as to convey the desired design to include form, fit, and function as required. Candidate may be asked to assist maintenance personnel on a variety of tasks ranging from pulling wire, to relocating safes and snow removal and other duties as assigned. Communication skills and a teamwork mentality are a must.
Utilize computerized data management systems as necessary to maintain records on equipment, preventive maintenance and repairs. Report any problems or unsafe conditions to supervision. Perform other miscellaneous duties which may have not been mentioned within this description of this position.
Extensive training necessary to adhere to Northrop Grumman policies and procedures, as well as MD State regulations including: fork lift/powered industrial truck operation certification, confined space entry, lock-out/tag-out, ladder safety, aerial lift safety awareness, storm water pollution prevention and spill prevention control and countermeasures, asbestos awareness, hazardous waste contingency plan, emergency response and evacuation, respiratory protection; medical clearance and fit-testing, hearing conservation, lifting/back safety, crane and sling safety, information security awareness for accessing the NG global network. All training occurs during normal working hours.
A least 6 yrs experience in residential, and/or commercial, and/or industrial carpentry.
Ability to read and understanding blueprints.
Understanding of state and local code requirements.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
Apprenticeship certification/trade school for carpenter/cabinetmaker.
