SUMMARY:

The General Maintenance Technician's main duty is to perform semi-skilled tasks in the operation, maintenance, and repair of buildings and related facilities and systems. As an essential member of the Building Operations team, the General Maintenance Technician is also required to work in a non-mechanical capacity as needed, responding to after-hours campus emergencies, and supporting the Facilities team during times of inclement weather. This individual reports to the Director of Facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

● Maintain and repair buildings and rooms including painting, cleaning and general maintenance duties.

● Assist with general maintenance duties, which may require heavy lifting and wearing protective clothing and footwear.

● Assist in maintenance of outside grounds, including snow removal, landscaping, and general grounds keeping.

● Monitor, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to ensure proper functioning.

● Support electrician in the maintenance and repair of electrical infrastructure.

● Assist in building, maintaining, and repairing carpentry and plumbing.

● Receive work order assignments and complete tasks accurately with detailed written comments provided on work orders upon completion.

● Adhere to established procedures to provide a safe working environment including complying with OSHA, State, Local, Federal and NEC regulations.

● Additional duties as assigned related to the maintenance of NEC's facilities including construction and general operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

● High school diploma required; vocational school preferred.

● Minimum of 3-5 years of related experience with basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other trades.

● Self-starter with excellent problem solving skills.

● Must be able to push and pull heavy loads as required. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and support others with the transport of piping and equipment weighing more than 200 pounds.

● Must be able to routinely walk between campus buildings carrying tools and equipment. Must be able to work alone, climb multiple sets of stairs, and work from ladders, staging, and lifts. Must be able to stoop and bend for long periods of time and work on hands and knees for extended periods.

● Ability to operate machinery and power tools, including saws, snow blowers, snow brooms, and basic hand power tools.

● Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills with ability to follow written and verbal instruction from supervisors.
