Ivy Tech Community College Indianapolis Campus is seeking a full-time General Maintenance Technician to perform a variety of maintenance and repair tasks. This person will assist in the day-to-day operation of the Facilities Maintenance Department by receiving, prioritizing, and responding to all maintenance work orders. In addition, this person will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance (PM) tasks and troubleshooting maintenance issues including (but not limited to) plumbing, electrical, lighting, drywall repair/installation, painting, buildings & grounds repairs, and HVAC repair/service. Technicians are also expected to provide input on building equipment performance for campus and college leadership.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct routine inspections of buildings to find and resolve issues with equipment, fixtures, building components, and Furniture, Fixture & Equipment (FF&E)

  • Maintain organization and accountability for tools and materials/supplies

  • Escort vendors as needed and coordinate with third-party contractors to complete projects and PM work

  • Perform minor electrical work and repairs such as: troubleshoot and install wiring and receptacle/switch circuits, understand voltage and distribution, and maintain electrical fixtures

  • Repair/replace light bulbs and ballasts

  • Perform minor plumbing work and repairs such as: clear clogged fixtures and drains, troubleshoot leaks at fittings and piping, install and repair fixtures, supply lines, drains, and water treatment equipment. Install, adjust, and troubleshoot toilets, sinks, water fountains, spigots, etc.

  • Perform minor HVAC work and repairs such as: changing filters, diagnosing system performance and evaluate hot/cold temperatures, troubleshoot and repair equipment (fan coil units, VRVs, air handlers, exhaust fans, circulating pumps, compressors, etc). May be involved in monitoring HVAC system controls to regulate temperatures/comfort and air quality.

  • Maintain combustion equipment, including maintenance vehicles (trucks & vans) and small engine maintenance equipment (mowers, string trimmer, blowers, tractors, etc.)

  • Complete small renovation/construction tasks such as carpeting, wall base, painting, drywall repair, and ceiling tile and grid repairs.

  • Assist with snow removal and other grounds work as needed.

  • This position requires being part of the maintenance on-call rotation, available for one week at a time every four to six weeks, available 24/7 during on call times. May be asked to work a 'swing shift' or late hours as needed for special events.

All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED

  • Three to five years of experience in relevant trade or maintenance setting; commercial maintenance background preferred

  • Ability to read, write, and understand instructions relating to maintenance tasks

  • Ability to use hand and power tools

  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance and heavier lifting or movement tasks with assistance.

  • Move safely up and down stairs, service ramps, and/or ladders

  • Must be able to travel to buildings within the Indianapolis service area via personal vehicle (with mileage reimbursement) and/or utilizing College vehicle upon approval

  • Must be able to hold or obtain an Indiana driver's license

  • Must be detail-oriented and thorough as well as flexible for changing situations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Trade school certificate/journeyman licensure

  • Experience with low-voltage cable and BICSI certification

  • Experience in a commercial or educational institution maintenance setting

  • Knowledge of local building codes, regulations, and ordinances preferred

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics

STARTING SALARY RANGE: $17.00-$21.00/hourly
