Job Responsibilities
The person in this position will perform scheduled and nonscheduled repairs, installation, and maintenance to ensure continuous and safe operation of commercial office buildings. Conduct routine property inspections and submit deficiencies and/or requests for expenditures associated with repairs, upkeep, and improvements to the Director of Facilities Operations. Directly or indirectly support the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire & life safety systems and equipment. Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies. Respond immediately to emergency or urgent situations. On-call duties after normal business hours. Under general supervision, this position will perform or coordinate general repairs and maintenance for the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) State Office building. This position must display a high level of professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail. Perform other duties as assigned.
This position is located in the Office of Facilities Operations.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
High school diploma and trades experience related to the area of employment. Relevant experience may be substituted for the required diploma on a year-for-year basis for basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Five (5) years of relevant experience related to commercial facilities maintenance. Technical certifications are a plus. Competent knowledge of commercial facilities maintenance practices, safety standards, and building technologies. This position is required to demonstrate advanced skills related to repairs and maintenance for all building components including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, painting, furniture, and carpentry. This position must have proficient computer and email skills. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, OEM manuals, and technical data sheets. Prior experience with CMMS and electronic work order systems is a plus. Must be able to read and write in English and possess basic math skills such as adding, subtracting, percentages, etc.
Additional Comments
Typical work environments include office areas, grounds, roof, and mechanical rooms. This position must be physically able to push, pull, carry, and lift up to 80 lbs. Must be able to stand, walk, crouch, climb, kneel, and balance as part of performing job tasks. This position will have on-call duties after normal business hours.
