Job Responsibilities

With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

  • This position is located at the Aiken-Barnwell Mental Health Center, 1135 Gregg Highway, Aiken, SC 29803.

Job Purpose:

  • Independently perform custodial, maintenance and building/grounds duties at the Aiken-Barnwell Mental Health Center.

Job Functions:

  • Supports the provision of evidenced based services to promote recovery by providing building and grounds maintenance.

  • This includes but is not limited to janitorial and grounds maintenance, addressing safety issues, addressing items as listing on the inspections, and general repairs.

  • This includes facilities, grounds and vehicles: Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, clean windows, painting, etc.

  • Provides quality customer services and networks with stakeholders to increase knowledge of prevention, treatment and recovery services.

  • Pursues new and better ways of serving our customers and stakeholders via training including OSHA, Health and Safety, SCEIS, Trauma Informed, MH First Aid and Safe Talk trainings.

  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and accountability to advance ABMHC's mission including compliance with corporate compliance, financial and other SCDMH policies and procedures.

  • Performs other duties as needed.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Requirements:

There are no minimum training or experience for this class.

Agency Requirements:

Any combination of experience or training that would enable an employee to perform the required tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of OSHA regulations as they pertain to custodial work and SDS.

  • Must possess the ability to understand routine oral and written instructions and carry them out.

  • The physical ability to carry out manual labor duties is mandatory.

  • Must be hard working, responsible, and reliable.

  • Will receive supervision from the Health/Safety/Facilities Director and General Maintenance Tech III.

  • Employee is subject to SCDMH/ABMHC policies and procedures.

  • Employee is expected to work independently.

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Able to work in hot and cold weather.

  • Operate a state vehicle (as applicable to position).

  • Position is considered essential and may be called back during crises/disasters/emergencies.

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
