This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remote position.

Available shift:

Tuesday- Saturday 4pm-12am

As a General Maintenance Mechanic, you would be expected to: construct, inspect, maintain, repair, assemble, install and replace interior and exterior building equipment, mechanical systems and components using vehicles, lifts, ladders, scaffolding, torches, measuring devices, power and hand tools.

  • Two years of experience or have graduated from a recognized trade school.

  • Possess and maintain a valid New Jersey Black Seal License or obtain within 6 months of date of hire.

  • High degree of attention to detail and care to prevent injury to self and others and to ensure that all work is constantly providing and appropriate level of service to, and meeting the needs of the University community.

  • Perform all work in strict accordance with accepted trade practices, code requirements and all safety and good housekeeping requirements. Be willing and able to use all required safety and personal protective equipment (including respiratory protection).

  • Must be able to read and write in English, be able to calculate mathematically. Be able to understand oral and written directions (including MSDS, chemical product labels, equipment manuals, work orders) and be able to carry out work orders as required.

  • Be able to drive vehicles equipped with standard transmissions. Be willing and able to work overtime as required and respond to emergency calls after working hours. Be willing and able to work overtime as needed.

  • Be able to lift and move heavy objects regularly. Be able to work in multi-story buildings without elevators, and able to climb ladders, work at heights and in confined spaces. Excellent attendance and work record.

  • Be able to participate in a rotating on-call list that requires you to be on-call for one week at a time including weekends.

  • Be part of a rotating overtime list that will require you to work weekend shifts and/or 12:00 am - 8:00 am shifts on occasion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A high school graduate or equivalent.

  • Experience with the maintenance of refrigerator units.

Duty

  • Construct, inspect, maintain, repair, assemble, install and replace interior and exterior building equipment, mechanical systems (boilers, burners, controls, pumps, motors, filters, ducting, vents, grills, a/c units, and all other associated systems) and building components using vehicles, lifts, ladders, scaffolding, torches, measuring devices, power and hand tools.

  • Coordinate assignments with supervisor daily.

  • Interact with students, parents and other members of the University community in a positive, customer service-oriented style.

  • Keep supervisor informed about progress and problems on a daily basis or as needed.

  • Locate and contacts appropriate vendors as necessary.

  • Maintain work hour and material expenditures records for various projects.

Regular or Occasional Regular Duty

  • Prepare and submit reports to Director and Vice President as required.

  • Regularly coordinate and inspect oil deliveries, water and oil treatment, and reconcile fuel and chemical usage.

  • Recommend materials; prepares required material lists for projects and daily maintenance.

  • Regularly check and report safety problems. Take corrective action whenever appropriate.

  • Assist with regularly maintaining inventory of all equipment, materials and parts required for various shops.

  • Respond to unscheduled and emergency service requests.

  • Work from blueprints and sketches regularly.

  • Other duties as assigned by Director and Vice President.

Regular or Occasional Regular Duty

  • Assist Carpentry, Custodial, Electrical, Grounds, Locksmith, and Plumbing staffs with various projects using ladders, torches, measuring devices, power and hand tools.
