The Campus Facilities and Operations-Phoenix is seeking a dependable and highly motivated individual to support General Maintenance activities at the Phoenix Biomedical Campus. Our mission is to support academic and research activities on the campus.

Due to the nature of our educational environment, this position will occasionally work evenings and weekends.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervises two or more full-time employees, or their equivalent, on a regular basis.

  • Makes decisions regarding hiring, evaluation, promotion and termination of employees, or makes related recommendations that are given particular weight.

  • Assists in supervising staff in the general maintenance and repair/replacement of buildings, property, furniture, fixtures or equipment, which includes mechanical, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, carpentry and painting repair/maintenance.

  • Inspects buildings and property for inventory or maintenance and repair purposes.

  • Monitors projects with regard to progress and cost.

  • Estimates material and labor costs.

  • Instructs or trains staff in performance of tasks and ensures appropriate standards are maintained.

  • Ensures appropriate documentation is maintained regarding unit operations such as inventory/material supply levels, work performed and status of work projects.

  • Prioritizes work for staff; schedules projects and assigns appropriate staff.

  • Performs general maintenance tasks as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of general maintenance principles, practices and techniques.

  • Skill in applying general maintenance principles, practices and techniques.

  • Ability to effectively communicate.

Minimum Qualifications

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lifts and carries up to 45 pounds. (i.e. 5-gallon water jug).

  • Occasionally lifts and carries up to 80 pounds (i.e. bag of concrete).

  • Pushes and/or pulls (appliances) using appliance dolly up to 200 pounds.

  • Moves objects from one floor to another.

  • Frequently bends/stoops, climbs stairs, kneels, balances, reaches above shoulder height, walks, and twists.

  • Has normal range of vision, hearing and speech.

Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

  • Six years of general maintenance experience which includes one year of lead experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.

  • Some positions in this classifications may be required to obtain an Environmental Protection Agency Type 1 refrigeration license upon employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High degree of flexibility, self-starter, works independently, goal oriented.

  • Excellent organizational skills. This should include identifying and creating goals, SOPs and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

  • Ability to effectively communicate with faculty, staff, and students.

  • Must be able to communicate requests, status, equipment evaluations, etc., through e-mail, work order systems or other written means. Good coaching skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify, initiate and complete campus projects involving scheduling, routine maintenance, work standards, etc.

  • Knowledge and experience of building systems including electrical, fires systems, plumbing, building management systems, etc., including operation and testing of these systems.

  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines and priorities.

  • Proven track record of being organized, responsible, and excellent verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

  • Demonstrated proficient ability in the use of personal computers and software including Microsoft.

The successful candidate for this position will have expertise in cancer drug discovery techniques, biochemistry, cell biology, protein purification, size exclusion chromatography, kinase signaling, and molecular biology. Candidate will be responsible for optimizing and running high-throughput drug discovery assays, contributing to SAR studies in collaboration with medicinal chemistry, purification of recombinant proteins, cancer cell assays, general lab maintenance, and other duties as required. Duties & Responsibilities * Coordinates the activities of student workers. * Performs standard laboratory procedures such as maintaining cell cultures requiring the use of sterile technique, processing tissue samples and preparing slides using staining techniques. * Maintains plant collections which includes planting, fertilizing, propagating and harvesting; performs routine experiments and analyses, as requested. * Maintains animal or insect colonies which includes feeding, watering, sexing and breeding the subjects. * Compiles data and assists in routine preliminary analyses; maintains research data in laboratory notebook, writes summary reports and reports findings to investigator. * Assists in performing surgeries and dissections on animals which includes setting up equipment and supplies, preparing animals for surgery, anesthetizing and monitoring heart rate of animal and harvesting tissue samples and readily accessible organs. * Collects samples or data and performs lab analysis and/or quantifies and tabulates results. * Operates laboratory and experimental equipment such as microtomes, microscopes, electron microscopes, spectrophotometers, centrifuges, analytical balances, photometers and spectrometers; makes minor repairs and makes arrangements for major repairs to be performed. * Organizes supplies, materials or equipment and sets-up equipment for laboratory experiments or demonstrations; may perform minor equipment maintenance. * Maintains detailed records of controlled substances in the laboratory; packages waste material and arranges for disposal according to established procedures. * Assists with basic mathematical and statistical analyses. * Follows established procedures to prepare solutions, media and reagents using arithmetical calculations for measuring; performs library research to find appropriate procedures, as required. * Cleans glassware and other laboratory equipment or materials using appropriate standards; keeps laboratory area clean. * Performs clerical tasks such as filing, typing, labeling and billing; inventories and requisitions supplies and materials.
