General Maintenance Aide (Pt)

Job Summary

THIS IS A PART-TIME POSITION

This is part-time manual labor work involving general maintenance and grounds keeping to maintain the appearance and safety of city facilities, assets, and grounds. Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor or designee.

Essential Functions

• Monitors and inspects city facilities, assets, and grounds to determine maintenance needs and safety concerns.

• Mows lawns, ball fields and other open spaces, and performs other ground-keeping duties such as installing landscape materials, aerating, seeding, fertilizing, mulching, edging, removing/cutting weeds, trimming hedges/trees, blowing debris off of walkways, watering, applying pesticides/herbicides, removing debris and trash, etc.

• Assist with the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems.

• Prepares athletic fields for play.

• Light maintenance and repair of city property associated with the facilities such as repairing chairs, tables, painting, etc.

• Assist in setting up and taking down equipment for various park and recreation programs and events; prepares facilities for recreational use.

• Performs general facility and grounds maintenance work as required, including carpentry, masonry, painting, and plumbing work.

• Operates and maintains vehicles, trucks, utility vehicles, tractors/mowers, weed eaters, edgers, blowers, chipper, mechanic's tools, carpentry and masonry tools, landscaping tools, and various other hand and power tools.

• Inspects equipment for proper performance and safety; performs equipment maintenance and repair work as necessary. Exercises care and safety in the use of assigned equipment and vehicles.

• Prepares and submits various logs, records and reports as required.

• Picks up supplies and materials as needed.

• Maintains clean and safe work areas.

• Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.

• A minimum of 1 year of experience in general maintenance, grounds keeping, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

• Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.

• Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and supplies used in building maintenance and repair.

• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.

• Ability to respond to supervision, guidance and direction of superiors in a positive, receptive manner and in accordance with stated policies and procedures.

• Ability to operate and care for equipment to manufacturer's specifications and/or within the specified parameters.

• Ability to demonstrate an understanding, consideration, and respect of cultural, religious, and gender differences when interacting with the general public and colleagues.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires light physical effort including lifting up to 25 pounds. May require occasional crouching, kneeling, bending, or stooping. Frequent periods of standing or walking may be required.
