Job Description

40% Primary Duties

  • Create, complete, document, and track maintenance reports via work order tracking software programs.

  • Perform daily inspections and assessments of the Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center, as well as conduct routine inspections of the outdoor tennis courts, outdoor volleyball courts, central turf field complex, and Shenk Sports Complex (including both grass fields and turf fields.)

  • Perform preventative maintenance on cardio and weight equipment including lubrication, pad replacement, loose cables/bolts, and safety checks.

  • Repair various cleaning equipment, such as vacuum cleaners and scrubbing equipment by performing tasks like replacing belts, wheels, motors, batteries, hoses, and squeegees, ensuring proper functionality and efficiency.

  • Communicate maintenance and safety guidelines to professional staff and student staff as needed.

  • Communicate and works with KU Facilities Services and outside contractors on maintenance projects and repairs for all facilities.

  • Manage an inventory of all large equipment and Mechanical housed within the ASRFC.

  • Oversee the maintenance and procurement of tools and equipment necessary for maintenance and repairs across all facilities.

  • Conduct research on equipment and contractors to facilitate bidding and purchasing of work equipment.

  • Assist with snow removal and responding to emergencies.

  • Acquire and maintain a comprehensive understanding of safety codes and laws pertaining to chemical usage, equipment operation, and employee safety.

  • Adhere to Human Resource Equal Opportunity rules and regulations in all activities.

15% Diagnostic and repair of equipment

  • Maintain and service all cardio strength equipment by conducting thorough inspections and performing necessary repairs such as replacing motors, circuit boards, wheels, and pedals.

  • Inspect repair, and maintain divider curtains and associated motors to ensure functionality. Replace basketball rims, backboards, volleyball standard, nets and cables, and associated motors as needed to uphold safety and usability standards.

  • Responsible for overseeing the repair and maintenance of an array of equipment, which can include but not limited to washing machines, dryers, vehicle maintenance, and cleaning work out equipment and other parts of Recreation spaces.

  • Your duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Inspection and Diagnosis: Conduct thorough inspections to identify and diagnose issues with equipment promptly and accurately.

  • Inventory Management: Maintain inventory levels of repair parts for both equipment and building maintenance, ensuring adequate stock levels to support repair operations.

  • Parts Sourcing: Source essential parts required for equipment repair, establishing relationships with suppliers to ensure timely procurement of necessary components.

  • Ensure accurate record-keeping by reconciling purchases made with university issued P-Cards.

  • Address any additional maintenance and repair tasks that may arise.

  • Communicate estimated costs and timeframes for repairs/replacements to Assistant Director of Facilities.
    10% Electrical and Lighting Repair

  • Repair and/or replace electrical equipment including but not limited to lamps, ballasts, wall outlets, switches, cords, fuses, motors, cardio electronic parts, and TV's.

  • Procure and manage inventory of new parts, while also providing assistance and training to others for performing these tasks.

10% Plumbing

  • Repair and/or replacing various fixtures and equipment essential for facility operations. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Fixtures: Repairing and replacing fixtures such as faucets, shower heads, and sinks to ensure proper functionality.

  • Plumbing Maintenance: Performing maintenance tasks on plumbing fixtures including water fountains, toilets, urinals, vacuum breakers, and diaphragms.

  • Drain Line Management: Responsibility handling drain line issues by efficiently shutting off and opening clogged drain lines, minimizing disruptions to facility operations.

  • Emergency Repairs: Being prepared to address and resolve emergency repair situations promptly and effectively to maintain the safety and functionality of the facility.

  • Procure and manage inventory of new parts while also providing assistance and training to others for performing these tasks.
    10% Carpentry:

  • Perform repairs or replacements on cabinets, doors, hinges, closure door locks, handles, lockers, chairs, and desks. Make minor repair to wood floors.

  • Reupholstry of strength equipment cushions.

  • Procure and manage inventory of new parts, while also providing assistance and training to others for performing these tasks.

10% Grounds

  • Perform field maintenance and repair.

  • Mowing, seeding, fertilizing, weed and insect control, irrigation.

  • Operate mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, tractors, seeder, board casters, trucks, and trailers.

  • Help with field marking and sports equipment set up.

  • Procure and manage inventory of new parts, while also providing assistance and training to others for performing these tasks.

5% - Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or completion of GED equivalency.

  • Three years of experience in two or more building or mechanical trades. Certificate of completion from a vocational school or an associate degree in a building or mechanical trade area may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of experience in general maintenance, encompassing skills trades, industry with ability to troubleshooting, and repair.

  • Experience with standard practices, tools, equipment and materials associated with a variety of skilled crafts and building trades, as evidenced in application materials.

  • Experience with occupational hazards and safety precautions of skilled crafts and building trades, as evidenced in application materials.

  • Coursework or work experience that demonstrates practical understanding of mechanical systems within an industrial or commercial setting, as demonstrated in application materials.

  • Previous work experience that required reading and correctly interpret blueprints, electrical or plumbing schematics, as demonstrated in application materials.

  • Experience working in a university, college, or multi-building campus environment, as evidenced in application materials.

Position Requirements

1.Valid driver's license at the time of hire and throughout the duration of employment.
