Job Summary

Under general guidance of the Senior Manager, North American Shared Services(Finance), this position will primarily be responsible for the period end close process for various business units. This includes preparing and posting journal entries, reviewing and analyzing balance sheet accounts, completing account reconciliations, preparing reports, and various other general ledger activities. This position will also analyze, compile and distribute weekly/monthly reporting packages while assisting business unit Controllers, the GL Lead Accountant and the GL Accounting Manager as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with the general ledger month-end close and presentation of the balance sheet and income statement results and analysis for various companies.

  • Ensure monthly account reconciliations are analyzed, prepared, approved and appropriately maintained in the monthly binder with supporting documentation as directed by Internal Audit for SOX compliance.

  • Provide back-up support for internal and external audit requests related to General Ledger accounts.

  • Responsible for Fixed Asset administration including but not limited to capitalizations, disposals and transfers for various business units.

  • Post Tagetik adjustments that are recorded in the general ledger.

  • Prepares and analyzes monthly and quarterly accruals and records journal entries as needed.

  • Perform quarterly roll forwards.

  • Partner with plant locations as well as the shared services departments to ensure GL activity is accurate.

  • Analyze financial statements on a monthly basis and report on variances.

  • Load month-end trial balances and supplemental schedules to Tagetik.

  • Perform inter-company balancing exercise.

  • Vendor master maintenance.

  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.

  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; participating in professional organizations.

  • Provide support for the strategic direction and execution of G/L accounting processes related to accurate and timely recording and reporting of financial information and analysis of both internal and external reporting, in accordance with Altra Industrial Motion's corporate accounting policies, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S. GAAP) and other relevant statutory, governmental or professional guidelines.

  • Provide proactive, relevant and timely communications, both oral and written.

  • Ad-hoc requests from G/L Lead Accountant, Senior Manager, North American Shared Services(Finance) or Director of Shared Services(Finance).

Job Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance. Minimum of three years of finance/accounting experience.

  • Enthusiastic, with ability to respond in a constantly changing environment and remain calm under pressure.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills with a customer service focus.

  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, problem solving, and results.

  • Proficiency in MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SAP or other ERP System(s) and Tagetik or other consolidation software packages.

  • Must be detail oriented, accurate, and possess excellent organizational skills and be a team player.

  • Must have a strong analytical and problem solving background.

  • Ability to act and operate independently with minimal direction from Manager to accomplish objectives.

  • Experience in a shared services or manufacturing environment preferred.

  • Flexible work schedule as needed during high workloads and month-end close periods.
