Position Summary:

The job application is open until 11:59 p.m. 7/16/2024. This position starts at $18.78 per hour and may be entitled to shift differential pay when applicable.

The General Labor I position would be working in the Student Union Building within the Student Union and Events Planning department under the Division of Student Engagement. This position is primarily responsible for cleaning the facility, performing facility and equipment maintenance, setting up and tearing down special event equipment for small and large events, and maintaining equipment supplies and inventory.

Job Description:

The Student Union is a 100,000-square-foot facility. Two General Labor I and one General Labor II positions are needed to care for the facility. The position is responsible for daily cleaning, and light maintenance of the facility. This also includes the set-up of events in our reservable meeting spaces.

Minimum Qualifications: NONE

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Custodial experience in an industrial, commercial or institutionalizes setting

  • Event setup and take down experience

  • General experience with vacuums, dollies, hand tools, carpet extractors, floor buffers

Conditions of Employment

  • A final job offer is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a criminal background check as a condition of employment. All background checks will be conducted in accordance with Fort Lewis College policy.

  • A final job offer is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a post offer evaluation of lifting abilities.

  • This is essential services position and required to work during inclement weather, campus events and in case of emergencies.

Duty: Cleaning of the facility

  • 40%

Develops and follows a general cleaning and maintenance schedule for daily, weekly, monthly, semi-annual and annual cleaning and maintenance. Daily general custodial duties to include emptying trash, mop and sweep floors, clean restrooms, wash windows and other duties as assigned.

Duty: Facility and Equipment Maintenance- 25 %

Develops a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly maintenance schedule of custodial equipment and inventoried facility furniture. Performs general maintenance on small equipment such as vacuums, carpet extractors and window washing equipment. Determines the need for repairs to custodial equipment and performs the needed repairs. This position alerts the supervisor when a work order for repairs needs to be completed.

Duty: Special Event Set-up- 20%

Set-up for meetings and special events. This facility was designed and intended to be used as a multi-purpose facility. Special events are categorized as meetings, conferences, luncheons, dinner banquets, receptions and concerts. This position is responsible for setting up risers, tables, chairs, podiums, pipe and drape and then breaking them down after the events. At times there can be up to five events happening simultaneously.

Duty: Monitors cleaning supply and equipment inventory

  • 15 %

This position assists in the inventory and distribution of cleaning supplies for the facility.
