  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description)

The General Foremen II is the single point of contact, and technical expert, for their trade. This position ensures that their trade meets all of the commitments assigned to them in the Integrated Master Schedule for every contract. This position directs, manages, and controls their trade processes and procedures for a given trade in support of NASSCO's safety, quality, schedule, cost and continuous improvement goals.

  • POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training)

Typically has a BA/BS plus 6 years in a related field or AA/AS plus 12 years directly related experience or 18 years directly related ship building/ship repair experience in supervisory roles.

POSITION DEMANDS (Required Experience)

  • In-depth knowledge in all facets of their trade relating to ship repair.

  • Working knowledge of contracting and estimating procedures.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and utilization of production processes, methods, quality, and technology.

  • Effective leadership, communication, and team-building skills.

  • Proven ability in people environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft products.

  • Single point of contact and technical expert for their trade(s); Responsible for all trade-specific technical direction, process, procedures, work instructions, techniques, methodologies, qualifications, standard item compliance, specifications, etc.

  • Plans, projects and manages manpower and resource requirements to support Production / Program Management activities.

  • Ensures development and best usage of facilities, tooling and personnel resources.

  • Ensures all employees are properly supervised and have all the necessary tooling, equipment, specifications, drawings and procedures to properly accomplish their jobs.

  • De-conflicts work and priorities between contracts and informs the Production Manager and Program Managers of any potential problem that jeopardizes completion of quality work within budget and schedule.

  • Attends production meetings and coordinates their assignments with other shops and ensures projected goals are met and all issues are being addressed.

  • Defines, measures, and controls production quality within the trade.

  • Monitors processes for continuous improvement and ensures the fullest support by all supervision.

  • Monitors trade / shop rework trends and implements corrective action.

  • Works with trade / shop personnel to develop training plans and ensures all personnel, including temporary labor, have been properly trained.

  • Analyzes and develops safety policies and procedures to ensure trade and ships' goals are achieved.

  • Controls, coordinates, and manages trades via Foreman and Project Managers.

  • Has joint responsibility, with Program Management, for trade performance to meet contract quality, schedule and budget performance.

  • Advises on estimate and costing data.

  • Controls department's direct and indirect overhead accounts.

  • Performs all job functions in accordance with NASSCO's Mission, Vision, Values and Principles.

  • Performs other responsibilities and duties as assigned

Communicates resource requirements to the General Foreman. * Reviews Gantt chart schedule to start planning work 2 weeks out, develops 1-2 week schedules for all members of their team and communicates progress to General Foreman. * Develops daily work assignments and expectations for production workforce. * Reviews and documents employee performance. * Understand and up-holds the requirements of the Collective Bargaining Agreement * Walks every production job before assigning it to assess necessary preparations for an efficient and safe execution of the work.
