Reporting to the Chairman, President & Chief Executive Officer Michael R. Minogue, the General Counsel will serve as a member of the Abiomed senior management team and maintain responsibility for the legal affairs of the Company, including the management of the corporate legal department.

As a senior executive of Abiomed, the General Counsel will provide business and legal counsel to the Board of Directors, the CEO and the senior management team, and will be expected to provide leadership and guidance on all legal issues, including corporate transactions; litigation management; intellectual property management; compliance; regulatory matters; securities transactions; corporate governance; mergers and acquisitions; insurance, risk and dispute management; and labor and employment, among other areas.The successful candidate will have exceptional leadership capabilities and excellent business acumen in order to serve as both a legal and business advisor and will lead and inspire the corporate legal team. The role has overall responsibility for the vision and leadership of Abiomeds global legal strategy, the management of legal and compliance risks throughout the Company, and the management and execution of strategic and tactical legal matters and initiatives. The ideal candidate has previous General Counsel experience in a global life sciences company including medical device, health care, or a highly regulated technology company and is motivated by the development of the next generation of legal talent.Company:

The successful candidate will have at least 15 years of progressive legal experience, including 5+ years experience serving as a Corporate Secretary of a publicly traded company, with a strong background as a corporate generalist who has handled business law and global affairs, complex corporate (including M&A) and securities transactions, public company governance, intellectual property management, litigation management, ethics and compliance, and legal department management, among other areas. The successful candidate will also have demonstrated leadership skills, strong management experience, and a proven track record of effectively handling a growing companys global legal function. A combination of top tier law firm and in-house experience is required.

Experience with a global life sciences company including medical device, health care, or a highly regulated technology company is a clear advantage.This position requires an exceptionally accomplished attorney with a distinguished professional record and a strong business and patient centric orientation. The Executive Assistant to the General Counsel will provide administrative and operational support for the Legal Department. In additional to the foundational elements of travel, calendar and meeting coordination, the EA is responsible for functional communication and key events for the organization. The successful candidate will be forward thinking, anticipate needs and be able to work well in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including PowerPoint, are critical. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: * Prepare agendas, coordinate and manage operation mechanisms such as department specific meetings and presentations, attend meetings and subsequently follow-up on significant and timely matters * Work internationally with company offices in Germany, Singapore and Japan regularly and manage projects with key partners around the world * Plan and manage all national and international travel and prepare expense reports accordingly * Work with C-Level Executive Assistants to prepare for Board of Director meetings before, during and after events * Provide administrative, telephone support and calendar management to the General Counsel and manage projects including preparing PowerPoint presentations * Foster an environment of appreciation and recognition within the team and complete special projects that positively drive employee engagement * Provide administrative support such as coordination of purchase orders, schedules and special projects to the General Counsel's direct reports, as well as provide assistance to departmental colleagues * Build and maintain positive relationships with all members of the Legal Team, Global Administration Team and key points of contact from each department to enhance and maintain the reputation of the department, create efficiencies and drive strategic initiatives * Interact with other departments to effectively and efficiently conduct special projects and assignments Job Qualifications: * Minimum five years prior administrative experience supporting VP level or higher * Able to work independently and handle a wide variety of situations, including conflict resolution and troubleshooting issues * Very strong proficiency in PowerPoint is required, with a creative eye for improving existing presentations * Excellent verbal/written communication, organizational, prioritization, time-management skills and attention to detail required * Must have strong initiative, self-motivation, very high standards and outstanding attention to detail * Demonstrate a professional, positive, and approachable demeanor in working and effectively communicating with a diverse group of people; always demonstrating high emotional intelligence * Exercise discretion, judgment, tact and poise in handling highly sensitive and confidential information * Proactive approach to each task to anticipate needs, establish contingency plans and minimize risks to ensure optimal outcomes * Able to troubleshoot and independently solve problems and able to constructively approach larger problems that need to be relayed to the VP by simultaneously providing analysis and potential, viable solutions Abiomed is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to a diverse workforce.
