Responsibilities

ICE is the investigative arm of DHS, and our attorneys help enforce the immigration and customs laws of the United States. The responsibilities of the position consist primarily of representation of the United States Government in removal proceedings before Immigration Judges, frequently involving applicants for asylum or for other forms of relief under immigration laws. Additional duties include providing legal advice and support to the other ICE components and litigation support to United States Attorney's Offices in immigration and/or customs matters. The position also involves appellate advocacy before the Board of Immigration Appeals, including the preparation of briefs and other pleadings.

Applicants must possess the following characteristics and competencies: integrity, judgment, organizational skills, communication skills, reliability, perseverance, decisiveness, initiative, professionalism, the ability to function independently and as part of a team, interpersonal relationship skills, and outstanding written and oral advocacy skills. The selectees will be required to have or be able to obtain a security clearance at the Secret level.

VIEW JOBS 1/17/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-04-17T00:00 Brief Description As a member of the global Noble Energy Legal Team residing in Houston, this position will be responsible for managing complex commercial litigation and other disputes in multiple jurisdictions with an emphasis on oil and gas related matters. This position will also support the General Counsel in connection with Board reporting and enterprise risk management. Detailed Description Litigation management * Serve as point of contact for company for litigation matters. * Effectively manage outside legal counsel to deliver results consistent with business strategy and value while managing client expectations. * Ensure that litigation is managed per risk and business goals. Develop and embed litigation management guidelines. * Conclude disputes effectively and efficiently and reduce inventory of cases. * Manage litigation budget. * Proactively report significant developments to management. * Serve as liaison between outside legal counsel and client groups and collaborate effectively with legal counsel for business units on litigation strategy, management and support at the onset of the dispute or litigation. * Design case strategy in collaboration with business units and legal counsel for business units and insure that business unit attorney is aware of significant developments. * Proactively assess opportunities for litigation to advance business goals (including as plaintiff), with input from the legal counsel for business units. * Serve as GC representative in litigation matters and effectively report developments, changes to risk profile and other matters relevant to senior management. * Consistently assess and communicate with business and management (as necessary) regarding opportunities for early case resolution. * Representative cases include: royalty disputes and claims to quiet title; environmental and Louisiana Coastal Zone litigation; personal injury, construction, and general commercial disputes. * Support EHS attorney as needed in managing environmental claims. * Support HR attorney as needed in managing employment-related claims. Claims/insurance and reporting * Support GC and governance team on Board reporting. * Assess litigation contingency reserves and support SEC litigation disclosures. * Support and partner with contracts attorney and overall legal team on indemnity and insurance and related contract terms. * Serve as legal liaison to company insurance team. * Prepare reports to Board re D&O insurance. * Respond to third-party demands for indemnity and subpoenas; support affirmative indemnity and insurance claims. Enterprise Risk Management * Support General Counsel in connection with Enterprise Risk Management. * Identify industry litigation trends and act proactively to avoid claims. * Engage with and support EHS, HR Compliance and Security as requested on internal investigations and policy development. * Support and lead team projects and training as requested by the GC. Personal characteristics * Exemplify continuous improvement. * Take a team approach to strategy for management of litigation; * Enhance brand and standing of legal team throughout company by demonstrating Noble values.
