General Accounts Receivable Specialist-University Bursar (Hybrid)

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the coordinator, complete tasks and services within University Bursar, specifically in the Accounts Receivable Operations (ARO). These tasks involve utilizing expertise in Banner Accounts Receivable, creating and maintaining GAR accounts, reconciling miscellaneous accounts, and applying payments. The main responsibilities include optimizing the collection of general accounts receivable and serving as the primary point of contact for initiating activities related to all general accounts receivable within the University of Illinois system. This responsibility spans from onboarding new departments to ensuring receivables are paid throughout their lifecycle.

Duties & Responsibilities

    1. Manage the creation and updates of GAR accounts.


    1. Oversee the GAR Online Payment Center for General Accounts Receivable payments.


    1. Research and process payments for general accounts, including manual payments from external sources and applying payments to invoices as per customer specifications.


    1. Review, analyze, and reconcile miscellaneous Banner transactions.


    1. Act as a liaison between University departments, external customers, and ARO to resolve issues related to general accounts receivable.


    1. Initiate and manage collection activities for delinquent general accounts receivable, monitoring collection performance for the entire portfolio.


    1. Process monthly GAR refunds.


    1. Update training and information guides used to educate ARO, University Bursar Customer Service staff, and University departments on operational policies and procedures.


    1. Assist in analyzing and developing operational policies and procedures, including identifying areas for policy development and providing recommendations for administrative review and implementation.


    1. Participate in University, campus, and/or University Bursar committees/teams as assigned.


    1. Perform other duties as required for a Business Administrative Associate.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or a field related to the position. Two (2) years of professional business, financial, and/or managerial work experience. (NOTE: A Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.) Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in an area of specialization inherent to the position may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

Five years of professional-level accounting, managerial, and/or business experience, one year of which was at an

administrative level.

Experience working in a higher education institution, preferably the University of Illinois.

Experience with Ellucian Banner that includes the ability to navigate and understand relevant modules.

    1. Excellent verbal communication skills to deliver information clearly and in a manner reflected by a friendly, positive attitude and a cheerful tone of voice.


    1. Effective written communication skills to prepare documents that provide complex information in a clear, concise manner.


    1. Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and Internet Explorer.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5010 - Business/Administrative Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible. The minimum salary for this position is $50,000 and the salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
