The Finance and Accounting Supervisor oversees general ledger accounting, performs month-end closing process, and establishes more efficient accounting procedures in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and UPS policy. A successful candidate combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles and computer skills to analyze accounts, transactions, and financial reports. This position reviews and verifies GL account reconciliations for accuracy of the general ledger balances and ensures open balances adhere to due date requirements and reconciliation approvals occur in timely manner.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Works with external auditors to complete interim and annual financial statement audits

  • Completes annual financial statements and related footnotes/disclosures to communication information in annual Franchisee Disclosure Document

  • Conducts annual self-audits to ensure compliance with general accounting practices and internal audit guidelines

  • Develops corrective action plans on audit exceptions to ensure exceptions are addressed

  • Reviews accounting processes to identify opportunities to increase efficiency

  • Responds to internal and external customer inquiries to resolve accounting concerns

  • Determines employees' training needs to produce continuous development plans

  • Provides on-going feedback and support to improve performance

  • Conducts performance evaluations in a consistent, fair, and objective manner to encourage continuous performance improvement

  • Holds others accountable to established performance levels to achieve individual and group goals

Knowledge and Skills

  • Accounting Knowledge:
    Demonstrates a broad business and accounting knowledge; describes methods in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • Detail Orientation: Distinguishes between "big picture" concepts and comments and specialized, smaller specific facts associated with work; notes the specifics of events and experiences; explains, in general, how details impact end goals or outcomes; ensures that work is completed accurately and with the appropriate level of detail

  • Finance Knowledge:
    Demonstrates an understanding of basic financial terminology and concepts such as cash flows, operating profit/loss, and net income; conducts financial analyses

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field

SUMMARY Responsible for the day to day management of Insurance Payable and Accounts Receivable departments. Make recommendations to management for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. Monitor and analyze department workload, develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of customer service and accuracy. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Manages the Insurance Payable team and ensures timely and accurate disbursements of customer's insurance premium and/or return premium; * Manages the Accounts Receivable team and oversees cash receipts, payments/credits on accounts, write-offs, premium financing and related functions; * Reviews various weekly and monthly accounting reports/statements related to Insurance Payables and Accounts Receivable. Reviews the monthly exposure bad debt reports and aged receivable report; * Develops and maintains good controls over commission differences, credits, advances and unapplied payments; * Partners with Senior Operation Managers and Managing Directors regarding clients policy, premium issues and process improvement; * Manages and mentors supervisors and premium accounting department staff, provide employee training and necessary tools needed to perform duties; * Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent combination of education and experience required. 6-8 years experience in Accounting or Finance, with prior managerial experience preferred.
