Description
The General Accountant provides financial, administrative and clerical support to the organization. The position processes, verifies and reconciles invoices in compliance with financial policies and procedures and completes payments. They also assist in general office administration as directed.
Primary Responsibilities:
Support the mission and vision of Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan.
Perform work in a safe manner by observing all Goodwill safety policies and procedures.
Interact with all Goodwill team members, clients, and customers in a professional manner.
Respect the diversity of others, including but not limited to, those with cultural, ethnic, and gender differences, individuals experiencing homelessness, and persons with visible and non-visible disabilities.
Process payments to vendors; resolve purchase order, contract, invoice, or payment discrepancies and documentation; ensure credit is received for outstanding memos; issue stop-payments or purchase order amendments.
Maintain AP ledgers by verifying and posting account transactions.
Process and transmit purchase orders and approve and create vendors.
Verify vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions.
Review vendor statements to ensure all invoices are entered into the system.
Respond to vendor inquiries.
Maintain permanent vendor records including W9's and insurance certificates.
Prepare daily Counterpoint postings and review corresponding paperwork.
Review and process expense reports in accordance with company policies.
Reconcile company credit card bills to employee expense reports.
Fulfill check requests and review and correct failed payments.
Disburse petty cash by recording entry; verifying documentation, balance and replenish petty cash.
Prepare bank deposits and deliver deposits to bank.
Prepare monthly sales tax payments and annual filing.
1099 maintenance and prepares 1099-year end.
Assist with answering the reception phone, greeting Admin office visitors and mail distribution.
Other duties as assigned by manager.

Education, Licenses, Certifications and Experience:
High School Diploma or associates degree required.
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration preferred.
At least two years of related experience required.
Valid state driver's license, insurance, and satisfactory driving record, required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of accounting software (NetSuite preferred).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Congenial personality, able to work closely with a variety of people; works well in a team.
Ability to set priorities, take initiative, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to maintain confidential and meticulous records.
Able to manage multiple requests in a sometime demanding and hectic environment.

Work environment is sometimes hectic with demanding time schedules, high stress, and occasional short deadlines.
