Job Description Summary

#TeamAAM is looking for a Gear Manufacturing Engineer with a passion to learn to join our team in Detroit, Michigan!

The Gear Manufacturing Engineer provides direction and engineering support for production, testing, and maintenance of gear manufacturing processes. They also provide engineering support to AAM manufacturing plants and participate in refinement of engineering systems and processes. They will support in the coordination of the resolution of complex technical issues in the manufacturing process. They will also lead technical design, development, and process equipment testing for assigned for gears, assist in the preparation of proposals on products for customers, and establish processes to eliminate defects. The Gear ME provides continuous improvement to manufacturing process and product designs.

Job Description

  • Responsible for all Helical / Bevel / Hypoid / Spline Manufacturing Processes, including manufacturing process and prototype developments, therefore implementing manufacturing best practices.

  • Responsible for developing and providing the manufacturing plan, Capital and tooling cost for quoted programs.

  • Resource for plant support on all design and manufacturing related processing issues, along with plant PIP and cost reduction initiatives.

  • Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation.

  • Compiles and writes training material and conducts training sessions on Gear Manufacturing and Quality.

  • Represents AAM at Gearing conferences, seminars, consortiums, etc.

  • Internal auditor for all Gear manufacturing conformances.

  • Provides quality engineering support for production teams and the engineering staff on:

o Gage issues

o Quarantining NCM

o Trouble shooting

  • Provides support for Customer Issues/Production Plant issues and special Product Engineering Requests.

  • Establishes Gage Calibration Schedules, Publishes/edits Gage instructions and conducts Gage training.

  • Ensures timely completion of all project objectives.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant Engineering or equivalent 4-year degree with relevant experience.

  • Familiarity with gear processing methods: hobbing, shaping, shaving, broaching, grinding, and honing, along with CMM and other testing and measurement systems.

  • Familiarity with ISO/ QS9000 as well as Statistical Process Control.

  • Ability to write detailed technical reports and create technical presentations

  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours and weekends if necessary.

  • Availability and willingness to travel locally and internationally to attend meetings, conferences, technical training, and trade shows if necessary.

  • Gear Quality systems knowledge and experience preferred.
