This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

This position will support all NGSP efforts for the GBSD Program within the Sector Support Business CoE organization.

The Tool Engineer will be a motivated project engineer and team player to implement and assist major tooling operations for the program. Typical candidate has a background/experience/education in project management for small and large projects in the manufacturing/mechanical engineering field and coordinating major events that rely on strong planning, leadership and great communication.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Support and Coordination of design and fabrication requirements for tools and fixtures with customers, both internal and external.

Support and Coordinate/develop & execute test plans. Performing tolerance analysis to ensure form/fit/function.

Conduct root cause failure investigations and implement associated corrective actions.

Develop & evaluate process improvements. Lead and Assist Product Development Team with new product designs to ensure manufacturability, validate process/technology.

Develop manufacturing processes, plans, and procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment in support of our process work instructions and visual aids of our shop planning process and other functions that affect product performance.

Support all phases of project: design, document, fabricate, assemble and validate Core Competencies

  • Manufacturing Methods

  • Knowledge of manufacturing, methods, fabrication processes (e.g., forming, stamping, machining, heat treatment, machines/machine tools, cutting tools and fluids, N/C programming, instrumentation, data acquisition and control systems).

The selected candidate will have the ability to select the best method of producing parts, tools or assemblies. Verifiable performance record that includes the various aspects of assembly line operation

  • Coordination of design and fabrication requirements for tools and fixtures with customers, both internal and external.

Computer Aided Design Tools

  • Basic knowledge of computer aided design tools and systems (e.g., computer aided design / computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), computer aided three dimensional interactive (NX/CATIA), Mentor Graphics, Unigraphics). Able to manipulate data sets, (e.g., compare CATIA to measurement data, create stereo lithography files). Engineering Drawings & Specs

  • Basic ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Basic level understanding of GD&T.

Basic Qualifications for Level 2:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience in an aerospace or military aviation Tool Engineering role.

  • Demonstrated experience to formulate and execute technical solutions to part, assembly and tooling challenges.

  • Demonstrated Project Management experience.

  • Demonstrated experience using SAP, Windows software packages and other electronic databases.

  • Demonstrated experience working in a Model Based Manufacturing digital environment.

  • Must have an Active DoD Secret Clearance that has been granted.

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in an aerospace or military aviation Tool Engineering role.

  • Demonstrated experience to formulate and execute technical solutions to part, assembly and tooling challenges.

  • Demonstrated Project Management experience.

  • Demonstrated experience using SAP, Windows software packages and other electronic databases.

  • Demonstrated experience working in a Model Based Manufacturing digital environment.

  • Must have an Active DoD Secret Clearance that has been granted.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience on high rate production military program.

  • Experience with Inter Continental Ballistic Missiles (ICBM).

  • Bachelors of Science in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) degree.

  • Experience with Siemens NX tools and Manufacturing Execution System (MES).

  • Knowledge of AS6500 requirements.

  • Personality traits (not for Taleo; only for Hiring Team information)

  • Team player

  • Adaptable, can handle ambiguity
