JOB SUMMARY

Scope of Work - Main duties, settings, geography, reporting relationships, other relationships:

A Gas Technician at Maine Natural Gas (MNG) is responsible for carrying out the tasks required for the safe operation and maintenance of MNGs Transmission system, Distribution systems, Metering & Regulating Stations, and District Regulator Stations.

MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Scope of work - range of responsibilities):

  • Weekly on call rotation

  • Inspection of work performed by contractors

  • Meter installation and reading

  • Emergency response to gas odor calls

  • Operation and maintenance of metering and regulating stations

  • Operation and maintenance of district regulator stations

  • Emergency response to alarms at stations

  • Locating facilities in response to Dig Safe calls / QAQC of contractor Dig Safes

  • Periodic testing, inspection, and leak surveys

  • Perform Gas Analysis and Safety Demonstrations

  • Assume the duties of the Operations Supervisor in his absence

  • Record keeping in accordance with MNGs Operating & Maintenance procedures

  • Work with Marketing to locate meters and service for new customers

  • Inspection of work performed by the construction coordinator

  • After hours response to Augusta with in 1 hour from residence while on call.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Skills/Responsibilities:

  • A Company vehicle is assigned to each Gas Technician (at discretion of company). It shall be the Gas Technicians responsibility to:

  • Operate the vehicle courteously and in accordance with all laws of the State of Maine or any other state in the event that out-of-state travel is required. Keep the vehicle clean and neat to project a good company image Assure that the vehicle receives the necessary repairs, periodic maintenance and state inspections to keep it operating safely and reliably.

Experience/Training:

  • Must possess a valid, Maine driver's license. If coming from out-of-state, shall possess a valid driver's license in the state of residence and obtain a Maine license within three months of starting work.

  • Must have or ability to obtain, Maine Fuel Board Propane and Natural Gas Technician License within 6 months of hire date.

Education:

  • High School Diploma with one year work experience required.

  • Associates Degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering preferred (No work experience required with Associates).

The goal is to insure system up-time and efficiency. The Service Technician will test, calibrate and verify system and peripheral devices (testing to be performed per all applicable stand and codes, (e.g. ULC536). Verify system functional performance to ensure proper operations per contract requirements and shop drawings/sequence of operations, etc. Perform system backups, install appropriate updates and patches. Complete documentation of all work done, including all readings, etc. Update customer drawings/documentation with any configuration or model changes. Ensure all assigned preventive maintenance tasks are completed in the time allotted and the month scheduled. Respond to and resolve Emergency Service Calls as required, in accordance with customer contract deliverables. Diagnose and perform repairs in a time effective manner. Participation in delivery of small service or install jobs, including but limited to, engineering, drawings, programming, documentation, installation, management of sub-contractors, start-up, testing and customer acceptance. Promote, build and maintain good customer relations. Keep supervisor informed of customer requirements, systems status, and actual, potential or perceived customer problems. Supply information on adds or extras to appropriate Honeywell resource e.g. Site Primary tech, Service Sales Rep, Field Service Supervisor, etc. Demonstrate system and provide training to customers as required. Participate in the preparation of job plans that cover job costs. Supply quotes to customers on adds and extras identified or as requested. Carry out hazard and risk assessments for all tasks per Honeywell policy and regulatory requirements..
