Design Engineering Department

The Design Engineering (D&E) team drives the technology, innovation and new development of data center infrastructure across Vantage's companywide portfolio. D&E evaluates new sites, drives cost and schedule in line with company goals and serve as subject matter experts across the entire project lifecycle from concept through commissioning. The team collaborates with Sales, Operations and management along the way. D&E also work hand in hand with the Construction team to come up with a vertically integrated design and ensures new and existing standards and designs are performed effectively. One thing that distinguishes Vantage is that our technical staff is given the responsibility and authority to directly drive tangible results. Our team can align long-term operational sustainability with value engineering and cost metrics to deliver products aligned with company goals unlike external resources. Position Overview

Vantage is looking for a meticulous, hands on Gas Planning Manager who will be responsible for overseeing and managing the supply, distribution, and strategic planning of gas resources to our data centers. This role ensures the uninterrupted and efficient delivery of gas, which is crucial for the operation and maintenance of our data center's critical infrastructure. The Gas Planning Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, engineering, and supply chain, to develop and implement strategies that optimize gas usage and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

This role can be based in any of our US locations: Denver, CO; Phoenix, AZ; Santa Clara, CA; or Ashburn, VA.

Essential Job Functions

  • Strategic Planning:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive gas supply strategy to meet both current and future operational needs of data centers.

  • Conduct detailed analysis and forecasting of gas demand based on data center growth, usage trends, and technological advancements.

  • Identify and evaluate new sources of gas supply, including renewable and sustainable options, to diversify supply and improve reliability.

  • Align gas planning strategies with the overall strategic goals of the organization, including sustainability and cost-efficiency.

  • Supply Chain Management:

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with gas suppliers and vendors to ensure reliable and cost-effective supply.

  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers, focusing on securing favorable terms, pricing, and delivery schedules.

  • Monitor supplier performance and resolve any issues related to delivery, quality, or service disruptions.

  • Coordinate with procurement and logistics teams to manage inventory levels and ensure timely delivery of gas supplies.

  • Operational Oversight:

  • Oversee gas storage facilities and distribution systems to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.

  • Implement standard methodologies for the handling, storage, and distribution of gas to minimize risks and increase efficiency.

  • Develop and oversee maintenance schedules for gas infrastructure to ensure reliability and safety.

  • Implement and manage systems for real-time monitoring of gas consumption and distribution.

  • Risk Management:

  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential threats to the gas supply chain and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Develop and implement contingency plans to address potential gas supply disruptions, including alternative sourcing and backup solutions.

  • Regularly review and update risk management plans to reflect changes in the supply chain or regulatory environment.

  • Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure all gas-related operations follow local, state, and federal laws, including safety and environmental standards.

  • Stay informed about changes in legislation and industry standards related to gas usage and safety.

  • Prepare and submit required reports and documentation to regulatory authorities.

  • Implement training programs for staff on compliance requirements and best practices.

  • Budget Management:

  • Develop and manage the annual gas supply budget, ensuring alignment with organizational financial goals.

  • Monitor and control expenditures related to gas supply, storage, and distribution.

  • Find opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements without compromising operational effectiveness.

  • Provide regular financial reports and updates to senior management.

  • Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with facility managers, engineers, and procurement teams to ensure seamless integration of gas planning with overall data center operations.

  • Communicate gas supply plans, strategies, and performance metrics to senior management and other partners.

  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to develop and implement initiatives that enhance gas efficiency and sustainability.

  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the gas planning team.

  • Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to gas consumption, costs, and performance.

  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to provide real-time transparency into gas supply and usage.

  • Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior management to advise strategic decisions.

  • Use data analytics to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and areas of risk.

  • Additional duties as assigned by Management

Job Requirements

  • Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.

  • Experience:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in gas planning, supply chain management, or a related role within the data center, energy, or manufacturing industries. Experience managing gas supplies for large-scale facilities is highly desirable.

  • Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.

  • Proficiency in data analysis and forecasting tools.

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to gas supply and usage.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Relevant professional certifications in supply chain management or gas industry operations are a plus

  • Travel required is expected to be up to 20% but may increase over time as the business evolves

Additional Details

  • Salary Range: $120,000 - $135,000 Base + Bonus (this range is based on Colorado market data and may vary in other locations)

  • Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including your qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
