South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G) is looking for students to participate in our 2019 summer internship program. Students will have the opportunity to gain knowledge in the field of Gas Utility Operations that will prepare them to compete for entry-level, professional positions in the utility industry upon graduation. The program's goal is to attract, develop, and retain high-potential college students. Upon graduation and successful completion of our program, the student may be eligible for consideration for a full-time position in one of SCE&G's core business units.

Responsibilities

Selected students will gain Utility knowledge in the following areas based upon the student's area of interest and business need:

  • Planning and designing for new metering and regulating stations on gas transmission and distribution systems

  • Preparation of station design drawings and other gas system related CAD drawings

  • Reviewing equipment and components from external vendors for suitability in gas applications

  • Supporting installation of gas metering and/or regulating facilities

  • Prepare plans and procedures for natural gas system projects using AutoCad, GIS and Microsoft Office computer software. Projects include new pipeline projects, pipeline system improvement projects and service pipeline replacement projects

  • Project administration duties including managing project schedules, budgets and providing status reports

  • Field Operations supporting engineering specialists and engineers performing a variety of functions to include overseeing gas facility installations and operations related activities

  • Students must be available to travel and work outside of normal business hours throughout the SCE&G Gas service territory

Qualifications

  • Must be in the process of obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 2.5.

  • Must have a valid driver's license and a reliable means of transportation.

  • Must have strong computer skills and good oral and written communication skills.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES * Has override permissions for teller team transactions and teller systems. * Assist management in developing strategies and processes to exceed client service via the teller line. * Coach and teaches team to deliver exceptional service to clients. * Assist management with teller team appraisals. Assists management with individual teller development plans and teller career training. * Accept deposits, verifying cash and endorsements, and issues receipts. * Cash checks * Process credit card deposits and credit card advances. * Process night deposit bags. * Redeem U.S. Savings Bonds. * Issue, log in, and sign cashier's checks and sign loan proceeds checks. * Accept loan payments and safe deposit box rental payments. * Admit customer to safe deposit boxes. * Answer client inquiries and gives balances. * Balance transactions at end of day and verifies cash totals. * Assure they are always in compliance with BSA and Reg CC * Adhere to high ethical standards and comply with all policies/procedures/regulations/applicable laws * Complete other duties as assigned. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES OR DETAILS * Training, vault maintenance, scheduling, opening and closing. * May act in CSR support capacity as required. * Fill in at other Bank locations as deemed necessary by management. ESSENTIAL SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE * High school diploma or equivalent preferred. * Ability to lead by exhibiting professionalism, promoting service awareness, being operationally sound and possessing strong leadership and teamwork skills * Ability to work closely with all areas of the bank to ensure clear communication and implementation of all policy, procedures and compliance requirements are disseminated. * Interpersonal skills to represent the Bank in a positive way in dealing with clients and other team members. * Ability to effectively communicate while displaying the professional demeanor which is identified with Southern First Bank. * Knowledge of retail banking rules, regulations, policies, and procedures * Ability to adjust to change and a willingness to be a team player. * Outgoing personality and a genuine desire to meet the public. * Maintain regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality and personal appearance. * Cash handling accuracy. * Successful completion of teller training and any other compliance training deemed necessary by the Bank.
