About the Position:

Fulfill large scope standard engineering design and project management responsibilities for customer sponsored gas growth opportunities. Help develop standards and procedures to ensure proper coordination of customer driven work.

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Develop / coordinate gas system designs for large scale, customer requested gas projects (services, main extensions, relocations, etc.).

  • Develop / incorporate applicable Standards, Procedures, and State/Federal statutory requirements into Gas systems designs.

  • Incorporate process safety procedures into the project work flow as required.

Develop / coordinate project estimates, within accuracy requirements.

  • Identify required material and associated lead times and delivery terms.

  • Develop and gain approval of project scope, cost estimate and schedule.

  • Prepare project documentation, including corporate sanctioning paper where required.

  • Identify the necessary permits, licenses, and land rights associated with the project.

  • Working with others in Gas Operations and Gas Engineering as well as other departments to oversee project from beginning to end.

  • Meet customer/contractor on site to determine work scope.

Knowledge & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering preferred and 3 years of engineering, design or project management experience.

  • Understanding of design and construction standards, engineering drawings, and underground construction methods and procedures.

  • Commitment Safety as a core value. Knowledge of OSHA, NYS, regulations.

  • Technical knowledge of natural gas system design and operations including natural gas industry codes and regulations, engineering and environmental codes and standards.

  • Project management experience on medium to large scale capital construction projects is a plus.

  • Demonstration of a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with a diverse group of company personnel, contractors, regulatory representatives, and town/city officials in a positive collaborative manner.

  • Ability to utilize project estimating tools and undertake analysis using such tools to provide written reports identifying causes for variation and possible corrective measures.

  • Proficiency with PC software applications including the Microsoft Office suite. Familiarity with work management applications such as Maximo and Power Plant is a plus.

  • Sees multiple relationships, identifying several likely causes or consequences of a situation, for example when reviewing the impacts to key stakeholders during complex gas design projects.

  • Uses direct persuasion to influence customers and internal stakeholders, using basic data, logic or a solid business case, especially to explain costs and construction standards to customers.

  • Takes personal responsibility for correcting problems promptly and communicates customer expectations to monitor delivery and satisfaction.

  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects within budget and time constraints.

  • Ability to assess project scopes and identify required variances prior to design to ensure a complete, high quality and safe project outcome.
