Essential Functions

The Gardening Specialist is responsible for maintaining an average of 35 acres in a neat, clean, and beautiful manner by performing landscaping duties which include the seven core gardening tasks: litter pick up, weed whip, edge, mow, weed/cultivate, clean up, and check and repair sprinklers. He/she trains, mentors and supervises a student crew who performs the same duties, including snow removal.

Qualifications:
1.Required

  • 2 years full-time landscape experience
    2.Preferred

  • 3+ years full-time landscape experience or combination of Master Gardener Certificate and experience

Employee Class: Staff (Full-Time)

Work Location: Provo Campus

Environment: Frequent exposure to unfavorable conditions such as all-weather, or working in cramped, very dirty, or unpleasant quarters

Seasonal flower planting (bending over, kneeling, digging); 6-8 hours; Daily - up to two weeks twice/year; Closed-toe shoes, gloves, sunscreen.

Tractor

  • During snow season; 3-18 hours; Daily during snow storms; Warm, layered clothing, coat, hat, gloves, boots, hearing and eye protection, sunscreen.

Lifting ice melt

  • 50lb bags; 2-3 hours; Seasonal; Warm, layered clothing, coat, hat, gloves, boots, hearing and eye protection, sunscreen.

Shoveling snow; 3-18 hours; Daily during snow storms; Warm, layered clothing, coat, hat, gloves, boots, hearing and eye protection, sunscreen.

Approximate Starting Salary: $34,367 - $44,632

This position is also responsible in coordinating missionary scheduling assignments with all MTC departments, Missionary Department, and mission presidents. Essential Functions * Schedule All Missionaries * Assist in arranging, indexing, and documenting the incoming missionary register and assign companion, residence, classroom, branch, and schedule for all incoming missionaries - from 200 to 700 per week * Resolve all language advancement/delay changes, threesomes, and solo missionary assignments * Communicate weekly scheduling assignments with all MTC departments to ensure space management, teacher availability, and training length of stay. * Communicate and reschedule all postponements, reassignments, language changes, and cancellations. * New Missionary Intake On Mondays and Wednesdays * Order and prepare individual packet materials for each new incoming missionary (nametags, ministerial certificate, schedule, etc.) * Assist international missionaries with their medical, church support, travel, and language needs * Process senior missionaries as they arrive on Mondays and resolve and communicate any necessary changes * Process younger missionaries as they arrive on Wednesdays and resolve and communicate any necessary changes * Assist with scheduling, training, and supervision of volunteers assisting with missionary intake * Assist Walk-in Missionaries and Staff with questions. * Resolve missionary problems with mailboxes, keys, missionary handbooks, nametags, identification cards, and ministerial certificates * Process early arrival missionaries and make necessary arrangements until check-in * Assist staff and ecclesiastical leaders in scheduling classrooms, residence halls, meeting rooms, and conference rooms * Assign and instruct solo missionaries on policy and expectations * Update database with corrected missionary personal information * Train/Coach student employees * Maintain missionary database and records * Ensure the accuracy of all assignments to avoid overlap, double-scheduling, or missed needs * Verify missionary status, arrival/departure dates for MTC/mission, and other personal data for accuracy * Update individual missionary record changes as directed by the Missionary Department, MTC Ecclesiastical leaders and MTC Training leaders * Maintain confidential information regarding missionary assignments, departures, and reinstatements Education/Experience Minimum education/experience required: * 2 years of full-time office experience OR the equivalent combination part-time work or years of college experience Preferred: * 4 years' work or college experience Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications Required: * Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel * Excellent inter-personal communications skills required * Excellent public relations skills are required in working with missionaries, ecclesiastical leaders, MTC departments and personnel * Must be able to work in a high stress environment with sensitivity to difficult situations * Handle highly confidential information with discretion and professionalism * Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously * This position requires especially mature judgment in problem solving, in prioritizing many simultaneous tasks, and in coordinating with multiple departments * All work is time-sensitive with critical deadlines Preferred: * Experience with other desktop information tools * Must have good organizational and supervisory skills This position primarily focuses on the accuracy of missionary information and the welcoming of missionaries to the MTC.
